Over the past few weeks ive had several accounts lapse because i didnt bother using them. (the majority of my carrier/dread alts and supercapital building ones)

With this explosion of CCP and community gayness (seriously, blockading jita, like its going to affect anything) i figured id actualy take the shot and desub the last 2 accounts i have sitting on direct debit incase i failed to apply PLEX in time.

After 20 minutes of figuring out if the new account management site is really owned and hosted by CCP and not some chineese fucker, i found out CCP removed the "unsubschribe" button.

Spend the last 10 minutes looking around on the page, but i cant find it. someone help me out here.

Sure, some are alts, w/e, but it will get a lot of the new players pissed off if they die 3 or 4 times within their first day of playing. Un-subscribed from lots of MMO's before this one (and Eve is certainly on a timer itself). It's amazing the transition from arguing about game mechanics and caring about the games future to un-subbed and wondering why it seemed important at the time.

You are absolutely right and this is the key difference. It's one that many players that support non-vanity micro transactions seem to misunderstand.

Some example scenarios:

Player sells a PLEX to inject ISK into his wallet:

• Player 1 purchases a PLEX for $. He then sells it on the market (or trade/contract, mechanism of sale is irrelevant).
• Player 2 purchases the PLEX with ISK, which he obtained through some in game method (Ratting, scamming, skimming from alliance moon goo etc.).
• Player 2 loses the ISK and gains 30 days of subscription time.
• Player 1 gains this ISK.
• Player 1 buys ships and mods on the market.

In this situation CCP get paid for the subscription time no matter who ends up with the PLEX and ISK is transferred from one player to another. No new goods are added into the economy. The goods Player 1 purchases still need to go through the player mining/production chain.

The goods are also subject to normal market conditions and game mechanics (eg: drop rates of meta/complex/faction gear).


Player buys PLEX and converts it into a ship from the micro transaction store.

• Player 1 obtains PLEX through X method.
• He then purchases a ship through the in game micro transaction store.
• The ship is created "out of thin air" and given to the player with no mechanism for limiting supply.

The first thing you may notice is the severe lack of a "Player 2". There is no other player interaction. EVE's mining/production chain is bypassed completely.

The other thing to question is "How does the ship get to you"? Let's just guess it would be where ever you purchase it. Which also means bypassing the entire logistical community of EVE too.

Forget risking Jump Freighters getting your gear to deployment. It's far more efficient to convert your ISK into PLEX/Aurum and have it created out of thin air at the deployment system.

I don't think it's a case of misunderstanding I think it's more a case of not wanting to have to pay to win.

There are 2 arguments:

The one for pay 2 win is, I don't have time to carebear it up, but i have disposable income therefore i can pay to get the gear others carebear for.

The one against says the little rich boy with nothing better to do than buy gold ammo and premium ships that are buffed gets an unfair advantage, therefore i won't bother playing anymore.

The second argument is what most of the people are protesting about. If enough protest by unsubbing CCP will see their 360k subscribers diminish and do 1 of 3things.
1. Push even more shit into the NEx to make up for to reducing revenue.
2. Backpedal on the Nex and try to lure back subscribers by doing vanity item only.
3. Go worry about WoD and let eve die.

I'm betting on the first, at which point i'll unsub.

Overtime is always unpaid, and pension is a local non transferable fund (to outside of Iceland) composed of a percent of salary matched by a percent from the company. This varies sometimes per position and person, but not by much.

Problem: I paid a subscription fee to CCP designed to give me access to all of their content without having to pay extra real-life money for exclusive bits. AURUM-bought items, in the end, require a player at some point to pay CCP extra money for them in addition to a subscription fee.

This is by far not the only thing I hate about CCP's microtransactions and recent changes in the game, but it seems to be a point people are missing.

I'm not sure if it was said already, and if it has i'm sorry, didn't feel like reading the whole topic, but the riot/protest has very little to do with the price of a monocle or any other vanity items, but with the CCP internal newsletter titled "Fearless" and subtitled: "Greed is Good, the Gordon Gecko issue". In particular, one quote "Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization, some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright." which is a 180 degree shift from the position CCP have been selling the CSM and EVE players on their future micro-transactions strategy for nearly a year.

In Zulu's blog he says the CSM meeting will conclude with a solution mutually agreed on between the two sides. I can't see some on the CSM ever agreeing, ever, to non-vanity items, but who knows what kind of strawberry sundaes they'll be served in iceland. So the three potential outcomes - 1. CCP caves, no pay to win items for sale, 2. CCP lies, says no pay to win items and then goes back on this via the "reasoning" their CEO used, in which player "actions" (ie 50 losers buying the monocles) are more important than player "words" (threadnaught is approaching 400 pages), or 3. CSM caves and we get what we voted for.
