Here's basically what happened:
Back around the end of april I decided to ask a question about why we have so many regions blue, and when was it going to stop. Instead of answering my question mittani made up some shit about me and perma-readonly'd me, so heh.
Later I was told we had so many blues because they were valuable in our war against the DRF/PL and without them we'd be screwed, as they are all amazing spaceship warriors who can win. Well, they didn't win, and some of these shitty allies that I despise are still blue, so heh.
I then decided to make a bond, with no intention of what to do with it, I thought maybe I'd pull through, or maybe I'd fuck goons. After I got 30bil isk in roughly 14 hours (without posting once), I decided to talk to salastil+phreeze+penif, and it was suggested that I should awox supers, which I thought would be hilarious.
Later on I came up with a relatively believable back story as to why I needed a whole pile of supers, so I said there was some sort of scam going down. After I got a few people to commit I talked to penif+salastil+bmerc (topgoon[555], youtuber and suxpool on SA, respectively) and we set up logged off hictors where I'd cyno our supers into. Once our supers landed shit got real really fast, and a massive PL super fleet showed up and raped face, and I danced off into the sunset. I'm now going to ISRAD to carry the torch that burns with the true flame of gooniness.
Total isk haul: 29.5bil
Dead supers: 2 dead aeons, 1 dead nyx
Guy convos me (Salastil) and says he wants to join ISRAD, I looked through his API and shit and it appears he can pass the initial hurdle of competency and even has a Nyx albeit on a very shit character only good for holding it. However since he is apart of people we're actively fighting, I was hesitant to accept him directly to corp. I tell him we're probably going to send him to Sniggwaffe until this Northern shit pans out unless he can do some serious fucking bridge burning. He tells me he has taken out 30b in loans before he even contacted me. I don't really view cash scams even on that level as good bridge burning material. "Scammed" cash could be returned after you insert a spy into the corp after all. I ask Penifsmash what would be decent enough bridge burning material to get into EO without our usual trial run in Sniggwaffe. He says outright Supercap kills, awoxing sub caps is pointless since bots generate so much fucking cash that it's replaced before you even get home. I chat him up and try running him through possible options for snaring them. All the while he is leaking shit like this. I invite Penifsmash(corp CEO) and Phreeze(FC opinion to coordinate a gank) to the convo and come to a consensus that supercaps are the best means. We give him information to contact us and we leave it at that.
Next day he convos me while I was afk which autoaccepted and says he could potentially get supers to come if it was no threat PvP like a recruitment scam killing a JF+Carrier. He wants to do it on Friday the 27th which was supposed to be the big throwdown fight night. Phreeze asks it to be postponed until Saturday since the fight was supposed to be a big one and would need full attention. We move the gank to 4pm EST on the 28th. Penifsmash posts the op since he has more e-cred than I do in PL and would swing bigger numbers to fleet. At about 2pm Penifsmash gets Billy Merc in on the deal to watch for counter drops via spies and to assist with getting shit hammered down on our end. So after that point we have to wait and hope for morons to join Ordo's fleets. At 3:45pm all we had was a single Aeon which was rather disappointing. However most people know that NC/Goons are notorious for showing up 30min after an op's scheduled start time so we wait. At 4pm on the nose we have 2 Aeons and a Nyx. Call to light cynos are up and we have the goons jump to Ordo's Hictor and we jump to our cyno immediately next to it. Goons shit pants and we kill them while spamming local calling goons pubbies.
Oddly enough we (Goonswarm) had a small shield HAC roam going which jumped into EWOK literally by coincidence as this was all going down. It was a bit of a pants-shitting moment to jump in on our way to lowsec and see cynos and 100 reds in local. Unfortunately we arrived too late to do anything (not that 20 guys in Vagabonds could have done much to hictors and supercaps in any case), but one of the super pilots was on our TS as he went down. He sounded pretty chill about it, actually.

The addressbook/watchlist is indeed a very broken mechanic and should be removed.
Darwin took his cut in Vale and now look at the NC position, and he also helped Atlas' pets out before they themselves were pushed off a cliff.
Strengthening your satellite alliances is a worthwhile goal, but simply losing them weakens the core. The kind of positive culling you're referring to is when they don't even participate in fleets at all (so its just the same as you never having them anyway) - but at bloc level combat esp. NC pre-DRF invasion you can expect good turnout from all the satellite alliances, even if they weren't very good. As Kaeydan once put it, 10 idiots being told what to do will more often than not outweigh that awesome 1 elite guy.
Leaving allies or pets hang out to dry is generally bad policy unless they genuinely are useless or better replacements are available.
