    Default Skies of Arcadia

So I didn't see a rules thread for this section at the top so don't know if there's any to adhere too :/ Lemme know if I'm breakin any or bringing up old games is for some (terrible) reason not allowed.

But if I'm not then SoA HO! By and far my favorite game of all time. If you like JRPGs (I mean like older turnbased JRPGs) then hopefully you'll have played Skies of Arcadia! It was originally released for the dreamcast then was later ported to the gamecube with some additions (but with downgraded audio and a slight graphics fuzziness due to compression).

So shout out if you know (and love) Skies of Arcadia! (note: It was called Eternal Arcadia in japan).

Skies of arcadia was an amazing game, and the best (and one of the only) RPG's released on the dreamcast. The combat system was a bit quirky, and took some getting used to, but the world map being composed of floating islands, the airship battles, everything was top notch. Definatly one of my top 10 games of all time

The fact it was on dreamcast is prob the main reason very few have heard of it

I have the Gamecube port. Awesome game, too bad I didn't get it for Dreamcast because it had extra shit apparently, but my Dreamcast was safely mothballed in my "It'll be worth something someday" vault (Attic) by the time I'd heard of Skies of Arcadia. One of my favourite games, and to say I don't really like RPGs that is saying ALOT

What was quirky about the combat system? Largely it was pretty standard minus the changing of moonstones, the spirit bar/specials. And yah not many RPGs.. But Skies and Grandia II make up for the lack with their awesomeness.

It's true not everyone has heard of it but it's still decently well known!

Nah you didn't miss out. The dreamcast had a little bit of dlc (free) but it was included on the gamecube version, as well as a few more additions (3 secrets, piastol story line, bounty battles, some more discoveries etc, moonfish). What did change though was the number of random battles, believe it or not it was a lot higher chance in the dreamcast version. Also getting Vyse the Legend became far more difficult than in the original, which was pretty easy to do.

So mostly it's considered an improvement, at least by me. Despite what I've seen some (crazy) people say there is no changes to the main storyline, the only change to the core game in fact is that 2 of the battles turned into bounty battles (which basically means after you do them you could turn them into money as they were still required battles).

There was a noticeable hit in audio quality though, and a not-so-noticeable hit in graphics quality.

I heard you could sell the Delphinus in the Dreamcast version and get different ships, and that's why the ships have valuations that never get to be used.

    Someone lied to you :|

Edit: Not saying it wasn't a possible part of the game at one point, but it's never been in release. I don't think the ship value does anything in release versions, unless possibly it helps you get the rich swashbuckler rating.

Mentioning Grandia II brought back some memories. I enjoyed the game until I realised I could not skip the dialogues and still had to go trough about 200.000 more hours of it. Perhaps it was because I had a shitty PC version.

I enjoyed the combat system and the magic and was greatly. I raged greatly after a couple days of playing and I was still at the second town because of all the "words" I had to listen to.

    Wings of valmar ftw.

Grandia was an awesome game, I didn't really have any problem with it.

Oh wow, when I get home I'll give you a list of the good stuff. I'm actually a fan of Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 (not as good as the ones that came afore but for a 3d sonic game they're the best). Toy Commander was also pretty good but it hasn't aged that well. Chu Chu Rocket was fun, and funfact the first online capable game in the US.

I wish I had the the ChuChu Rocket Special PAL Edition DC.

Wow... that has got to be worth a lot... especially as a regular PAL DC is worth about £300 these days

No way o_0 I coulda swore I saw em on ebay for like 10 pounds or something. That one is worth quite a bit though yes, as there was a very limited number made (don't remember off the top of my head, 10 maybe? And you couldn't just buy em in a store iirc).
