Thier success is also down to pulling off diplomatic master stroke after master stroke. I do not know how they manage to do it. Time after time they are able to get powerful enemies on side while they eliminate another threat that has been isolated, its being going on for years and one threat after another gets removed while other potential threats sit and watch it all happen thinking it will not be us next surely.

I'm curious as to what the actual anti-techNerf argument is. I hope it's not fights because Tech has been pretty region-settling. You had two entities (CFC/NC.), who have been shooting each other since the TRI glory days, who formed OTEC which neutered conflict in the north. Things were so stale in NC. that we were nearly forced to go fight Solar (who I have loads of respect for o7).

It's unfortunate that CCP has introduced alot of changes and expansions in the last 2-3 years which actually hurt small gang and even large conflict flashpoints. I don't think they did it on purpose but ever since Dominion, it's just gone downhill. No, I didn't like the 90 POS grind of taking Sov but fuck the Dominion sov system. It was basically a huge middle finger to anyone in 0.0 who wasn't in or under the protection of a bloc.

Do you not remember the entire Curse Alliance (and friends) bandwagons (more like gangbang) going down on Xetic? We were both flying those broken ships, my god those dual sensor boosters/warp disruptors gankageddons were ridiculously overpowered. And, for -A- information, TWD was already leading fleets in his 100mn Afterburner maller like a fucking boss!

My point I guess Vince -- let me know if you agree -- the game evolved in those blob wars because of the real long term commitments most of these entities took. When winning (as in, not losing everything you and your friends have been working on in the last x years) become more important than pure entertainment, people will be looking for ways to maximise their chances with what they currently have.

You can't just blame it all on CCP. It's the people's fault. I don't want to lose my shiny ship, it took me some time/money to get it, If I can ensure it will actually live and yours will die, I'm more than ready to bring some friends along.

So yeah, as you have the possibility of losing more than just pixels (but actual time/money), people will always want to win. Creating fun within those wins is, however, the trickiest part in those online spaceship wars. I get my kick by helping newbees understand the game, some people like Rooks and Kings get theirs with intense preparation and perfect battle escalation.

I believe the old NC had more characters in it pre-dominion than the CFC has right now, but I'm not going to bother checking, the numbers aren't really all that important.

The thing the sov system has done, however, isn't to force the coalitions to be born, since they happen anyways due to, as you say, safety in numbers. What the sov system does do, however, is force both sides to put all their pilots into that one system, instead of going "welp, they put all their guys in that system, I'll just go hit this system instead since it'll be undefended", because of course you can't really do that since it'll take x timers to grind through that system instead.

You are, in fact, the only coalition that has been able to hold back the tide (for the most part) of the full force of CFC aggression for more than 3 days. You have "safety in numbers." All five of those alliances have thousands and thousands of players combined. You are bringing hundreds of people to major battles. You are one of the major power in Eve. Own it.

You're mistaking individuals' performance and expectations for the alliance's. Newbie goons get used to losing ships really fast and learn that the loss doesn't hurt. No one cares about killboard stats and the culture is casual-friendly and isn't based on elite pvp. Individual goons can be fucking shit at eve, fleets can be welped, regions can be lost when bills aren't paid, but since lesson 1 is that losses don't matter if you keep coming back, the alliance as a whole still performs well.

Delve? Goons have always been laid back - if it was their great strength they would never have welped sov there a couple of years back. Or been embaressingly kicked out of Cloud Ring by Ev0ke shortly thereafter.

Being laid back is a strength, but its even stronger when combined with a meticulous organisation that ensures there's always something to log on for and the resources are there to make it happen. Take Burn Jita as an example: Thousands of ships had to be in place before it started. Then they had to be handed out like candy every time someone got Concorded. That didn't happen by itself.

Of course, all this hard work only impacts on the rank and file member's activity as jabber pings and free draeks/malestorms/whatever the ship du jour is. It's a shame some of them don't seem to appreciate the effort that is put in for them.
