And by allowing one, well-justified blue-shooting case to go unpunished we basically open the portal to a hellish other-dimension of horror and chaos which ends with "hilariously" wrecked amok freighters on the VFK undock. Which sounds good but involves a lot of paperwork.

The correct approach is to speak to your CEO, who will submit form 240a together with the mandatory handling fee of 150 million ISK to the overworked diplomacy team, who will curse me loudly for putting that in there then go about finding a solution. Trust me: they have his number on speed-dial by now.

Poor excuse to condone botting, especially if your stance is you don't condone botting.

This might sting the CSM Chairman's PR machine a bit, while he tries to run a media campaign re: CCP not doing the right thing by the players, if his major alliance condones harbouring or looking the other way and politely ignoring known cheaters in his alliance.

CCP wont do anything based on this, and whatnot of course, but its one of those things that could turn into a festering sore amongst a playerbase that looks for conspiracies 24/7. And Mitani's current campaign for FiS requires some sort of playerbase support.

P. sure the goon stance has always been "Do it at your own risk and if you get exposed well tough shit, you're fucked and outta here...but that doesn't mean the rest of you white knight faggots go causing trouble, either," as that's how it's always played out. We just can't say that because saying "You can bot and we won't care either way, but if it's causing any issues you're gone" because that's politically incorrect. But it is the reality of how it goes in every alliance that I've seen. And I've yet to meet a botter who wouldn't get the fuck out of the way for an actual person who wanted to rat because the botter knows all the regular player has to do is anonymously select the report option from the drop-down menu or file a petition and the botter gets banned and has no proof (and sometimes no idea) as to who was responsible.

I didn't say you were, and i don't think Mittens is running a botting operation, but people do bot in all alliances, high, low, nullsec, whatever. But Mittens isn't running a campaign based on fact and sane judgment, he's running a media campaign, where facts are only vaguely relevent, and needs the playerbase behind him to make it effective. His alliance has come out with a stance that says, "don't report cheaters", and publicised it, and its started a thread, and dragged a dev and a CSM into it...

You get the picture. It will probably all pass by with no effect, but i still think it was a bit of an accident one could do without.

I don't want people to think that I'm some grand anti-bot crusader, nor do I think joe goon gives a fuck about what joe pubbie thinks of goonswarm. However, there was an attempted implication that the criticisms, either the generalist anti-bot stance or the potential hypocrisy between a mittani led goonswarm and a mittani led csm, were fundamentally unsound. This implication is just plain false. I don't care to argue either of the points because I truly don't give a fuck about them, but the attempt to just mockingly dismiss them was so blatantly weak that it had to be called out.

Fortunately for goonswarm, the average eve forumgoer is dumber than a box of dogshit, so I'm sure these very valid criticisms can be easily turned aside in the public realm.

X/etc were botting up a storm in 2008, but suddenly it's a hot topic in 2011. Ya I'm not buying that. The Chinese would have botting raven armada's that would fight goons in delve/ scalding pass/ teneferis back in the day as well. Air Atlanta or sweet snack (I know his new guys) who would run 4+ macro ravens per person. Hell the botting raven armada even killed a RA Thanatos during a botched hotdrop in 2008 when it actually meant something. Really though, CCP doesn't give a shit about botting. If you get flagged as RMT the story changes but botting is still basically legit.
