Because loosing 100 Battleships is a big deal (back in 2006).
Because loosing 100 Battleships is a big deal (back in 2006).
It's an excuse for us to role play as Star Destroyers.
(TEST) Reimbursement for a Maelstrom is 120-135mill.
(TEST) Reimbursement for a Hurricane is 15-18mill.
From an alliance funds point of view every Mael loss means we could have welped ~8 Canes in it's place.
Having cheap, fun and "easy to get into" ships to go lose is pretty key for an alliance which has terrible FC's and incompetent pilots.
I think the main issue is the logistics for regularly replacing 100s of BS hulls.
I sympathize.
man up. with jumpfreighters its ez
I thought it was universally decided that herokittens was a bad idea. I may not log in as much as I should, but I am a champion of the forums.
Try to bear in mind that Goonswarm already offer full reimbursement for Maelstroms, so it's not actually a stretch to reimburse a suicide tempest fleet. The only difference is that you acknowledge suicide 'pest fleet is going to welped, whereas you merely assume DBRD alphamael fleet is going to get welped.
"Oh no we lost 200 hurricanes in hotdrops this week we're in the hole for the price of three carriers"
"Oh no we lost 200 maelstroms in hotdrops this week we could have bought a couple of supercarriers for that"
This means we can experiment a bit and be reckless, and can let junior FCs dick around and oh god why am i trying to explain goons to people who care so terribly about their K/D ratios what was i thinking...

So why not even cheaper ruptures or cyclones? Rupture neut the same amount as hurricanes and are less venerable to bombs, while cyclones neut more and tank better than hurricanes. For the cost of 200 hurricanes in reimbursement, you could do 1000 or more ruptures.
I think this is just a way to teach hundreds of goons about the immeasurable pleasure of a hot-drop by disguising it with cheap hurricanes.
Hurricanes look like star destroyers.

Look I don't care what ship it is it's a laugh and hopefully some hurr hurr i'm immortal supercap pilot won't get to enjoy ruining eve for the other 99.99% of nullsec pilots for a bit. I don't need deeper reasons and, when it comes down to it and if you are so sure your ideas are better, why not just be happy that we're not using them?
Edit: that's not a reply to my comrade Comrade Comrade.

I think as a standard large fleet set up Hurricanes have proven to be fairly poor due to them popping too quickly before you can get the reps in.
However it sounds quite fun in the specific circumstances that CFC have said they want to use it for. (Just think of the smug if they pull it off and get some poor lonely supercap).
As long as they don't go nuts and try to go toe-to-toe with an enemy fleet I think it should work.
Or they could just engage anything and everything, it's a whelpfleet after all.
[05:28:32] Damienwhat Solette > friend said, if only they didn't have those 2 falcons there, i said they have 3, and he said that just says they don't want to do anything fair, just want to be dicks about it like not normal dicks but big black huge cocks
I didn't think of this whelp fleet so it must suck
I'm not what you call a "good" poster
This welpfleet looks like a good idea. I hope the standard fitting is without drones tho, otherwise I see the following happening:
Vee: bridge bridge bridge, do NOT launch drones
*30% of the fleet launches drones*
*one thousand drones are launched at once, server literally shits a brick*
man I wish I were back in GSF because I'd so fly a Bhaalgorn in one of those fleets :3
Don't act like you don't have all your awoxing accounts in GSF, penif.
Rather different situation, I'd have thought. The fact that Drake armies were bad for fighting Abaddons doesn't mean that 200 canes + tackle appearing out of nowhere will be effortlessly shrugged off by a careless supercap.
I'll look forward to seeing the battle reports either way.
spherical monkey fears and envies
I look forward to Goons tackling a PL solo ratting super carrier.
Cyclone looks like a locomotive and that makes it cool.
He pays CCP an extra fifteen bucks to roleplay his own spacefriend. Kind of sad.
The Rokh is also a train. It's unfortunately it's sole purpose right now. (Buff rails, nerf supercaps)
Wreathe.
Even has the proper boiler shape!

Just curious, did anyone else hear "Hurricane Fleets" and immediately think of Drake fleets?
Wreath is like the proper 19th century old west tie-the-girl-to-the-tracks-snidely-whiplash locomotive. Rokh is like the 21st century gonna-run-you-down-when-the-homeless-schizophrenic-pushes-you-onto-the-subway-tracks locomotive.
Can't stop the rokh:

And with that I'm off to Dovre, apparently there's some mosk oxen or something I can run around and take pictures of.
Got a very smug fox on my way back from Lofoten though, so it's not all a complete bust, but I want more.
Actually, just to be a tripleposting faggot, I just stumbled onto this on steam:

Who's squeeing like a schoolgirl right now?
You brought back my fond memories of playing the first one. I will play this. Watch out for trolls up there TGR.
True indeed. May I add that Ishtars look like boogers?
And Cyclones look like this little guy:

And dominixes look like shoes.
Vagabonds look like your kitchen and your basement made mad love and out came a jumble of pipes, pieces of stoves, a boiler and some windows strapped to a fire extinguisher for engines. It's still is a cool ship, though.

IDK, I'm not getting "shoe" out of that.
I've noticed that there's a pretty big disconnect between the general consensus of kugu and what's actually happening. It seems enough people have said it in this thread that people are taking it as fact.
