He decided he couldn't handle it and he left for an alliance more suitable for him: Brick Squad.
I get that some goons take the game seriously and some don't, I just think the poster slogan of the clusterfuck being "we're all chill dudes who don't give a shit, you can do whatever you want; but you better fucking bring the right ship with the right fit to fleet" sounds a bit off to my ears.

We _are_ chill dudes who don't give a shit - but when you leave the best stocked market hub in nullsec, with tons of fleet-appropriate fits pre-fit and waiting for you - in an armor Domi to join a Maelstrom fleet - then expect your chill spacebros to mock and perhaps shoot you. All you have to do is pick the right hull for your skills, load ammo, and undock.
Fleet doctrine and appropriate shiptypes do seem to be one of the things we sperg most about, but having endured NC kitchen sink fleets before I joined the CFC in which a drake was held to be roughly equivalent to an armor fleet BS in an armor fleet, I can't say that I mind. Knowing that my FCs can make appropriate decisions and evaluations of fleet capability based on the shiptypes at hand, and that said ships are fit as the FC expects makes me feel a lot better as a rank-and-file grunt.
Goons take their posting seriously, not this terrible game.
People can fly what they like in our fleets. But if you want to pack the mids of your maelstrom with ECM mods then you can't expect to get reimbursed. There's chill and there's buttface-retarded.

Well, you can still do whatever you want - you don't have to bring the right ship or fit, or even go on the op at all. However, if you expect the alliance to pay for it, you need to follow a minimal, easy-to-follow fitting guide. Yes, you might be mocked or trolled for not going on the op, but you're still welcome to call yourself a Goon and participate in other activities - or, if you'll buy your own damned ship, come on the op in Nigfleet (Mr. Vee honourfights apparently excepted).
When I played, I chose to fly with TEST for that very reason - while I made sure to always bring a properly-fit fleet ship, if I had so wanted I could have pulled out my trusty Harbinger and nobody would have given a fuck besides a bit of mocking and trolling - and, of course, not paying for my stupidity. If I had ever figured out how to properly rat, if I lacked funds (which, barring your well-received donation and a few others toward the end, I did) I could have ratted it up in our home space without any adverse consequences to my membership there. And, if I ever developed something approximating skill, I would have been free to grab a Sabre or some other soloing ship and play around elsewhere in the galaxy. I would... not have been so welcome elsewhere.
I can agree it sounds a bit off, but as long as you are offering a giant carrot for good behavior and only the very gentlest of sticks (limited exclusively to "lol you're terrible" and the like) for poor behavior, I don't think that's inconsistent with "chill" at all.

Nah, people are always welcome to fly what they want on strategic ops - i regularly fly a pulse apoc I brought from the fall of Delve on ops. It's more about getting them to not waste my and my team's time by filing for reimbursement. On a regular week, I reimburse somewhere between 200-500 ships per week. Sometimes more if DBRB is truffling. In the time it takes to write a pm and yell at someone, I could have processed 5 legit requests.
And it doesn't drop off when we aren't at war. Our membercorps take over and crash fleets into walls throughout cobalt edge, syndicate, tribute and ec-. So it's less about stopping someone's ability to fly what they want and more about educating them that they are shitting on a team of volunteer reimbursers when they post something they know is wrong.

This doesn't make sense to me. The whole strength of GS is their ability to harness the latent (and underappreciated) strengths of the retard through simple yet effective fleet concepts and exceptional logistics. It works by lowering the bar, not by raising the retard.
