[TONIGHT 20.00 EVE] Time Dilation mass-test on duality, open invite to everyone

Help test Time Dilation and Node Remapping to benefit us all

Hello spacefriends,

CCP wants to test these things on duality tonight:

• Automatic activation of time dilation on heavy lag
• Remapping of nodes (splitting it from a server under high stress / reinforcing it on the fly, from what I can gather - it will disconnect people, but only for a very short time)

Usually, about 250-350 dudes show up for these tests, majority of which are empire pubbies FC'd by CCP employees. This is a rather low number to test heavy lag situations with, for good reasons: the tests are boring and the only 'reward' is skillpoints on singularity.

While I'm no fan of CCP and hardly want to suck their dicks, I do want to take initiative to help them test time dilation and node remapping. Coming from an alliance that arguably benefits the most from laggy nodes, I still want to see it completely eradicated. CCP has agreed to put ~the 0.0 crowd~ into a separate, third fleet without CCP fc, so I'm asking all of you and all willing alliance members to setup a test server client and join our fleet tonight. GSF has setup an open mumble to accomodate everyone.

The test will take about ~1 hour and involves shooting hundreds of empire pubbies. Yes, we can bring (glasscannon turret) titans. If this experiment is succesful, we can expect CCP to work with us to create a more fun and valuable event for 0.0 alliances.


This is how you connect to the test server

1. Download the automatic test server patching tool, please try to start running/updating this at 19.00 GMT, it takes 15-30 minutes depending on third world or proper internet. UPDATE TO DUALITY, NOT SINGULARITY
2. When logged in, join channel masstesting and perhaps moveme, follow instructions to get teleported to staging area. It has a market with most ships/items for 100 isk.
3. Buy whatever (faction) ship / bring a supercap and wait for fleet to go up on Mister Vee, mumble details will be shared once in fleet

Needless to say, the more data they gather, the better. Spread the word, everyone is welcome ?

Make sure you make a copy of your Tranquility client folder FIRST, rename it to Duality, and then run the SiSi Launcher tool (with the Duality Tab selected) against the new folder. If you don't copy the folder first, you will download a full 5GIG client. If you copy the folder first and run the patcher against that, it will only need to download the changes.

It's not as bad as it seems, basically: form up, shoot a pos for a minute or two, wait for pubbies to crossjump eachother, then kill all of them. It's more fun than laggy nodes, or at least I'll have this post to refer to when people bitch about our numbers lagging everyone to death

Mixed reports, I think some of our guys do not understand how its supposed to work, but seeing it in action was one of the more important parts of this test for us.

The nice thing seems to be it allows the server to catch up faster than it normally does, so the dilation kicks in hard at the start, then tapers off pretty fast, but the change is that once it starts to taper off the server doesn't suffer the mod lag that we're used to.

Before the server would start to catch up, but your weapons would only fire once a minute, even though you had full steering control of your ship. Now things dilate, and everybody slows way down, but things generally happen in order, then as the server catches up to itself things start to head back to normal speed, again happening in order.

Its hard to get a decent super brawl, this one went really well, we killed 7 titans, lost nothing, so fake server or real server it was a fun fight....well fun for everybody but DBRB, i think he crashed 3 times.


There were a pretty impressive number of supers there as well, scrub supers from everywhere, TNT titans (they're like the mythical white whale) and a bunch of dudes who never really bring the toys out to play.

Without PL/NC I don't think we would have pushed lag to the level required to keep time dilation running at 20-30%, so I'm glad they showed up. The test was pretty nice, TiDi works well. It kicks in fast when f.e. a fleet jumps in and recovers relatively fast.

Pretty much everyone died, on both sides. The survivors mostly warped to planet one and ate a CCP dd at the end (that actually seemed to mess the server up a little). Gotta say i like time dilation so far, in the fight on the gate with easily 50+ supers there it was down to maybe 60% at worse, way faster than a lagfest currently occurs. People were crashing a fair bit but everyone who did was able to log back in fine.

A good example of what'd happen in a supercap fight between us on live though.

Also my titan pilot looks hot, and caldari captain's quarters look sweeeet.

It could well be a big step forward, i hope CCP doesn't use it as an excuse to stop working on lag but i think it will make a big difference today was nicely smooth most of the time, a few people were talking about lag but it sounded like it was client side (i only "lagged" beyond what felt like the dilation when they hit the superDD at p1 and everything died)

Also in our defense those gents titans DDed us first, we just responded in kind.

Definitely not population caps and I understand that with the amount of people engaged in fleet fights that it's a daunting if not impossible problem to fix at this point in time. I'm just not sold that time dilation is the be all end all of solving lag problems.

Most competitive games have an enforced minimum latency, which is basically what TiDi is.
