Fortunately one of these can be fixed; does anybody know how to make my computer recognize my ethernet cable again? One day it just stopped and I plug it in and nothing happens. I searched (with wireless, which works fine but college blocked eve/TS ports) and haven't found anything. Any software solutions? Maybe going back to an earlier time or something?

All you need is something like this (although not that specific one obviously) - it plugs into any PCI slot easy as pie, and you just plug your Ethernet cable in there instead.
Does the green light on the port of your PC light up when it is plugged in?
also check to make sure the network card is not disabled in the device manager.

Sec, stop being fail. Your choices are very simple:
1) Take it to the store and take advantage of your warranty. <--- What I would do since you just got the damn thing. If your hardware is already shitting itself I'd get a new one.
2) Take it to the store and have it fixed (will cost money if your network card is blown and it's not a software issue)
Also, put your fancy college brain to work and learn to build a desktop computer. It will literally cost you like $500 (give or take) to build a top of the line computer that can run Eve Online/most current games on max settings AND all the HD gay porn your heart desires.

I must agree with July, build your own rig Sec. Its really not hard, and you can have a top of the line computer for (I'd say $500 is a bit small) somewhere in the ballpark of $700 that will last you easily 4 years, if not 5 to 6.
If I understand it correctly, Sec is at college correct? Which, if he has the same thought pattern as I did, wasn't a good time to have a desktop. Hence the portability of a laptop. I'm not saying a desktop isn't awesome to construct and cheaper, I've had many hours of fun constructing mine, but I definitley appreciated my laptop whilst at uni/college.
Fuck that, just get an iPhone, use it to take notes, put on PC when you get home.
Let's be honest, all you were doing on your Laptop was looking at EVE Market Orders or Cracked.com during class anyways.
I've got both a laptop and a Rig...And an iPhone. TBH I couldn't live without any of the three.

I too would like a change of pace from iOS, but Android is such a mess. It reminds me of Linux for everyday home use, it's cute and all, but no.
Windows Phone 7 is on the right track though.
On topic: For the money it costs to get a gaming laptop, you get a nice work laptop with ~moderate~ game capability (for when you really must kill the addiction on the move) and a killer desktop (which is irreplaceable for gaming).

However I have jumped on the bandwagon of people refusing to log onto eve for anything except saying a few words and changing skill ques. Maybe Shai can revive the inactivity of my corp, or maybe we'll all just move on to somewhere else as a group. Only time will tell, as CCP/EVE claims another bittervet to their list of upcoming unsubbed toons. o7

So, over the next few days, DIAT will be merging into another corporation. Many of you know this already, but for those of you reading this down the line or if you haven't been on, I'll explain everything.
Recently I had to stop playing EVE and the entire corp went rather apathetic and inactive. Nitrous and I have been feeling a lot of pressure to log on when our real lives just don't allow it. I still DO have time to roam, I just don't have time to run Incursions, organize missions, do logistics etc.
People also have lost the will to make isk, so I'm combining all these problems into one solution.
1. We want to roam
2. We want fun
3. We don't want sov
4. The people are more important than the corp name
5. We don't want to carebear that much
So, how does merging help us? It takes the strain off me and Nitrous and the other directors and it takes the strain off you; ALL roaming ships will be given out. The corporation we are joining is a "communist" corporation; this means all ships are PROVIDED FOR YOU. The tax is 50% however, you will not have to spend isk on PVP ships so ALL of it is fully yours.
The corporation has a small US TZ that will supplement our own and a similarly sized EU TZ. The actual in-corp numbers are large but most are inactive. This means that there won't be much corporate leadership breathing down our neck. We will still do fun things that WE want to do. We will still be deployed to fountian and for the most part, NOTHING will change in our day-to-day activities, except we'll all be flying ships and having fun.
The TL;DR is:
We are merging
You will get ships to roam with
The corporation we are merging into has a small US TZ that will boost our numbers.
We still have independence.
If you don't want to join us, that is completely understandable. I just want you to know that nothing will change; I will still be FCing, everyone you know will still be with us, and we'll still have our own independence.
If you wish to follow (and I'll love you forever if you do), simply drop your roles now. DO NOT APPLY YET!

What sec doesn't understand is instead of "saving" the alliance this is just going to destroy it. The membership of "The Concordiat" and their antics on comms and such will not be so welcome on the communist comms of Evolution. Well done sec, you have successfully split up a group of great guys o7. I wish you would told me your plans on whelping the alliance before putting W0RM5 in there.
