I started reading the Dunk and Egg stories that are set 100 years before GoT. Anyone read those?
My attention span has drifted from Game of Thrones to Chuck Palahniuk books

I feel kinda ripped off. I read the all of the current books over a couple of weeks before I saw authordudes pic. He'll be dead before the next book is published and I'll have a massive case of bookworm blueballs.
I hope he has kids who can decypher his notes and just write books after he cacks.

Didn't Roger Zelazny die before finishing Amber?
It's more than that. I guess I'm a bit peeved that he seems incapable of taking care of loose threads. His first books were tightly woven and shocking in the way main chars were killed off (I mean that as a compliment) but now he seems intent on stretching out every storyline for ages.
Maybe he's intentionally trolling us and the punchline is he dies and writes a fuck you to all of us in his will.
Actually, I could respect that. Am I twisted for thinking that would be cool?
I truly hope he has a safety deposit box that is only accessible by his kids after he dies that has every last detail of what happens in ASOIAF in it. And I have the weirdest feeling that he does have one.. but there's only one piece of paper.. with one sentence on it.. that says.. "haha thanks for the cash fuck you all"
Just finished the Hedge Knight. It was really cool! I am going to read the two other novels.
The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards have begun on Fox! And the winners are:

He looks so sad holding that thing.
He didn't want the emmy for supporting character.
All "Supporting" Emmy's are bastards in their owners eyes.

He's an absolute fucker.

Kafka wanted his papers burned too. Didn't happen.

No shit the author is a total dick, he has tried to sue people for making fanfiction about his characters.
Genesis really is awful

Ha look how shitty and small that game map is.
Started reading the series over break due to boredom and Memory of Light being pushed further and further back into 2012.
Having just finished Game of Thrones, I feel as if only one more book is needed to wrap everything up, but judging by your guys' reviews, there are plenty of plot-extenders to come. ):

Yup. Basically he adds a few new characters each book, and makes some previously minor characters POV characters to stretch it out.

I watched the first season of the TV series without reading the books first, knowing I should've read them first. Now I'm torn between buying all the books and marathoning through them or waiting for the TV series to play out and to get a "semi-spoiler free" experience.
From past experiences the books always feel a lot more intensive than the movies.
Buy all the books then spend the next 6 years moaning/complimenting the production as the series comes out.
To be honest the first series was pretty good & faithful to the book. It's going to be interesting to see how they deal with what's coming on later.
I saw the first season and it inspired me to read the books, including the first one. They aren't terribly well written - I think I enjoyed them more by allowing HBO to create the world for me first. You should read them.
And the dothraki dude does die in the series,
what are you talking about?

Just finished Book Two, and it is beginning to read like a Wheel of Time prologue novel or something. Does this mean GRRM is copying Robert Jordan, or are they both copying some earlier fantasy author whom I have yet to read?
I've watched Richard II recently it was really good.Numerous parallels have been drawn between the events and characters in A Song of Ice and Fire and events and people involved in the Wars of the Roses. Two of the principal families in A Song of Ice and Fire, the Starks and the Lannisters, are seen as representing the historical House of York and House of Lancaster, respectively.
Richard II was my favorite of the "History" Shakespeare plays I have read.
Beyond the storyline, however, I feel as if the universe is very much the same. The wolves are reminiscent of Perrin, the squabbling amongst kings as winter/The Dark One prepare for invasion, the Dothraki are sort of like the Aiel, etc. Now that I try to list them, I don't really see as many parallels as I thought, but still, the two are very similar.
