That's positivist thinking, which is an epistemological framework that has been discarded by most people for decades. Post on the internet aren't simple chains of neat logical symbols. They are argument, psychological map, evidentiary claims, analysis, opinion, accepted facts, disputed facts, propaganda, and raw bullshit all mixed into one. There is no way to reduce it to something that can be evaluated in positivist terms. It is SO obvious that the source matters, and that's 10,000% more true on this forum than probably any other MMO forum there is.
I'll rephrase: Someone who is usually wrong is occasionally right, and when accepting input or criticism you should take that into consideration.
?"eve's a bad mmo, really bad, it's only saving grace is the people playing it, which i guess doesn't say great things about the people playing other MMOs"
This part of the forum is becoming very difficult to read. In a very bad way. I've always liked k.com but in the last 5 pages of the Rubicon thread I've broken my mouse scrolling down to read the 5 posts that were ontopic between 150 posts about some HoN char. We have a different forum section for that. I just don't see what the interest is in derailing threads like that, I understand some people wanting to be goons but in the long run this will leave only the retards posting. As shitty and inactive as FHC might be, their war thread that gets 2 post a day[one by helen and maaaaaaaaybe one from elise or another pl] contains a lot more information that the threads around here. 6 months ago people were posting shit that made sense not like monkeys that discovered a keyboard and a meme.
Its seems threads go horribly offtopic when nothing much is happening. This seems to be the case with the Rubicon thread. Things are slow at the moment so people p much bullshitting. It is quite nice at times but understandable that its a pain to follow.
Maybe I'm wrong but I just feel like I'm the old fart at the party that doesn't understand what's going on and the music is too loud and there's no one to talk to about jazz and the 80s disco music and so on.
We could close EOU for like a week to try and urge the SHC failures to go to their new site.
And by we I mean the new admin.

Who knows what admin MpozoY will do now that he finally has full control over what goes on.

Xutech is the one hope we have left!

No troll. Well, technically I had an account and even logged in occasionally. I only ever participated in one actual battle- where I was killed on warp-in and decided "hey actually playing this game is sort of shitty." When I first began caring about Eve I followed the political side of the game because I found it interesting (this is back when resources were scarcer and the various alliances actually had different leadership styles and alliance policies and the like so interesting things were still able to happen in Eve.)
Me and kugutsumen both came up with the idea of writing up a rundown of what had gone on each day in the game (I was bouncing it around in my head but things actually kicked off only when he came to me and asked me to start doing it.) Although I'd give a lot of the credit to the Mittani, as I based a lot of the earlier stuff off of his Goonswarm war updates. Admittedly, after rereading the original thread recently, using him as the primary source for so much biased myself towards the "coalition" in a few areas. As stated in that post you quoted, they began during what was probably the site's lowest point- Kugutsumen had made the site private for a month to encourage people to register- with the plan backfiring miserably.
When the updates began the site's popularity skyrocketed, though I never felt entirely comfortable doing the updates because I had to get every speck of information second hand, from the various forums. Either way, after Mittani stopped I was the only one doing them so people had to either like it or leave it. Viper hated them because I mocked PL a lot in them, but I think I turned out to be correct on our main contention (whether PL actually stood a chance at destroying Mostly Harmless in that one campaign.)
I can assure you that nothing of value was lost, unless you actually like reading u mad brosef crap. A few people complained that it fucked with the porn but I never brought that argument, aside from porn being rarer back then most of the stuff we got old and came from crap groups that most people didn't care about. Even then reading mlyp style nothing-speak was just as tedious and boring on other people's forums as it was on this one.I actually greatly appreciate the fact that there is no filter. I can't quote any actual statistics but I'm sure most people HATE filters. They suck, they always filter out stuff you don't want, they can usually be gotten around pretty easily, and as per his rules you can actually use said one-liners, just not in a one-line context.
I can understand at a point it becomes unfeasible to moderate this by hand, but as long as they are able and willing to moderate without the use of a filter or anything automatic I internet-salute the mods for the work they do. It is seriously and honestly appreciated.
The bottom line with the filters was that they worked, people learned what was and was not filtered and avoided using tired cliches because of it. Though the real root of the problem isn't the posts of course, its the people making them and their views on what is and is not post-worthy. Aside from disliking the direction Eve has gone in, I don't think I'd enjoy posting here these days, even if I didn't have any preconceptions about the site. The level of discourse is about what you would have found on CAOD circa 2006 or SHC circa 2009 and I don't mean that as a compliment.
Badges of Honor: Three probations, one reversed.
a wild clomsaver appears
A Clomsaver post is a rare sight indeed. Good to see that the superior intellect and style still shines through.
Some of us are still fighting the good fight Clom - come back to us! There remain some little jewels worth reading in the back waters, and side shows of EVE. i mean hell, look how quaint and civilised we managed to keep the Delve thread until the frogs rocked up and fucked it?
I figured this was the appropriate thread to ask, to whoever came up with the titles above your avatar. What is the "The Empire Never Ended" one in reference too? Star Wars? (It's my favorite of the ones I've seen.)

Shouldn't you be Red?
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
This thread was pretty much me trying to reach out to you guys to figure out how to improve moderation. Since I no longer have any say over such things, it is kind of pointless. If xutech or Viper wants to make one, they can. If regular posters want to make one, I suggest doing it in the RAPE sub-forum.
