Unfortunately, Eve is full of dogpiling faggots, so we get the game we are now forced to play.

The biggest problem is most alliances aren't a meritocracy, and the people who do want to do better with the pvp side will invariably start butting heads with those who prefer the empire building side of the game.

Makes sense. Memorable experiences in EVE are made possible by only a handful of serious 'fun-makers' in any given group. So when those individuals for a successful group want to chill out (retire) they usually go somewhere where they think someone else will fill that role and everyone else tags along.

I don't think it has much to do with like-minded people. People just want to climb the game mountain so that they're playing with the best of the best of the best. The problem is a lot of players find out it's just more of the same old shit and the top of the mountain is actually a cliff edge.
