Time to get my bike out, seems public transportation won't be a good option for a while.
The thing that most annoys me about this is the more I hear, the more it seems like ISI has been holding out on us like the lunatics we've all guessed them to be.
lol Osama got podded, the US has the corpse... wonder who we bring it to to get the bounty

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
Buried at sea WHAT THE PIGFUCK.
No body means no shrine. Good thinking, IMO.
I don't think this will make a difference on Obama's reelection. I think most people are happy to hear Osama has been killed but the majority of them had already moved on years ago. That won't stop some people from making hay over his success.
I'm not an Obama fan but he did well from every angle on this (from what I've heard so far). He decided to send in a team, rather than bomb and he ditched the body where it would be impossible to retrieve. I won't vote for him but I can't see anything here that he fucked up.
Buried at sea AKA 'We dont want independent confirmation this is the guy' or 'we think he died years ago from liver disease, so we can safely say we killed the man by hitting his former second in commands compound and never having to produce a body'.
Either way, America just secured the attention of the bogeyman to keep the people fearful and biddable for the next ten years as freedoms are chipped away at a bit more and gets to keep the military industrial complex happy into the bargain.

I don't think anything big will happen, but it will be more likely that individuals will go crazy in crowded areas with a gun or hand grenade.

Might just be terrorist trolling, but who knowsAdding to the concern is a Defense Department report released last week by the WikiLeaks website that a Guantanamo detainee had knowledge of al Qaeda possibly possessing a nuclear bomb somewhere in Europe.
The detainee, Abu al-Libi, said he was told by al Qaeda associate Sharif al-Masri that he believed if bin Laden were captured or killed "the bomb would be detonated" in the United States.
Al-Libi said al-Masri told him during the summer of 2004 that the terrorist network was having difficulty moving the bomb, but if it could move it "al Qaeda would find operatives to use it."![]()

Its not like we really need the body for anything. They probably took a bunch of photos, hair, and dna samples before chucking him overboard. Clearly they didn't want to aggravate Muslim sensitivites by displaying the body, and in their religion they bury the dead within 1 day or something.

I hope he was necro'd before swimming with the fish.
The dude who pulled the trigger must be feeling like the dog's bollocks today.
People are trained to fill someone with holes until they are down and dont run around solo like rambo superman like in the movies, so odds are the assault team feel like the dogs bollocks.
Actually, Twitter (and Facebook) are both CIA endorsed programs developed ever since it was realized that people are dumb enough to broadcast their lives to the world. Much cheaper than having feet on the ground and nationwide CCTV footage. You found us out. We paid some guy to live a quarter mile from the alleged compound for 50 years and invented twitter on the off chance we needed to fabricate a story like this and we needed reliable witnesses.
trolololol etc...
I'm just saying that its as plausible he died years ago as it is Sunday night. You show people something they want to see and they will ignore or invent their way around the details that dont fit in with what they want to find.

I suppose it would be foolish to bring up the subject of extra judicial killings?
Good job martyring the guy by the way...
Edit: I realise I'm being harsh here. I suppose if he'd been captured and tried he would have been sentenced to death, the American legal system being as it is. That would probably have had an even more profound martyr effect.
It might have been possible to hand him over to the ICC, where lifetime imprisonment would have been a viable sentence. That would mean acknowledging the ICC though.
...which is kinda tricky when your previous and incumbent Gov's are bloody to the elbows involved in rendition, torture, assassination of 'terrorists' (potentially anyone that doesn't have Americas best interests at heart) and war crimes. It might have been possible to hand him over to the ICC, where lifetime imprisonment would have been a viable sentence. That would mean acknowledging the ICC though.

Some people simply deserve to die. Also, it was a military action, the SEALS don't surround terrorist compounds and wait for Samuel L Jackson to talk them into surrendering peacefully.

time for an update
I think the ICC locking him up would be a great idea. Put him in a prison in an EU country all nice and safe. Don't worry folks; it's not like his admirers would take over a plane and kill a hostage per hour until he was released. That only happens in the movies.

Realistically, if he had been captured we should have handed him over to the Saudis. A public beheading would be a nice end to his story.

He has sympathizers in the Saudi royal family. I wouldn't trust them with his capture. Doubt they would've taken him either.
Some uncomfortable truths for the Yanks:
Given American conduct on the global circuit in the last ten (?) years and specifically events immediately following, during and after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the United States of America is on purely moral grounds and along the lines of 'an eye for an eye' as justifiable a target and enemy for 'terrorists' as 'terrorists' are for the United States.
You've both done Evil shit, dont get all highhanded. You aren't the good guys and neither are they. Further

Wut?
Says someone who I presume lives in Europe? If so, please recuse yourself from passing condemnation after spending centuries subjugating the planet and causing the first wars that truly did involve much of the entire world. The European empires are the ones who seeded the pasture of hatred so well.
If America is powerful, you need only to look back to two world wars her people were dragged into unwillingly. The Americas largely wanted to let the rest of the world deal with their own problems. If the world sentiment is so against America, look to yourselves to discover the reason why this is so.
according to reports the White House is apparently contemplating the release of the photos of him.
Not sure what your point is. The Saudi royal family is quite large. There is the self interested ruling faction that kicked him out of the country rather than prosecute him for fear of retaliation of radicals who support Osama's cause. Then there are those within the establishment who are sympathetic to his cause and have, allegedly, supported him with wealth and information.
Not trusting the Saudi's with his capture, hypothetically, comes from a concern that some within the Saudi establishment would cooperate with outside forces in an effort to free him. Likely, not really. Possible? I think so.
Also, given the uprisings all across the Middle East I doubt the Saudi's would want to execute Osama. Seems to me Saudi Arabia has avoided much of the fire that is spreading over there. It would be unwise for the Saudi royal family to take Osama and execute him would it have been possible.
Basically, that you're inventing radicals out of people who are instead hoping for enough basic rationality to not bite the hand that feeds you. The Saudis are basically a better-managed ISI, resulting in a weaker position but better controllablity. Usually. The Saudi royal family is shockingly pragmatic for the people with the keys to Mecca and you do their abilities a considerable disservice.
They didn't want his body because whatever they did with it would shit all over that balance.
Funny shit with young religions. Believe me early christians looked exactly as bizzare batshit insane and fundamentalist to Romans as we see radical muslims today.
You see roman empire was an established civilization familiar with many other religions. Not that other religions were respected but general stance was "Believe what you will" at least Romans knew about foreign gods and seen alot of foreigners.
And then came these weirdo fanatics who deny EVERY other god. With a fucking execution device on their flag! Who die with smile for any reason while saying they die for their god srsly.
Also cristians lived secluded so their traditions were surrounded by rumors such as "they eat children" Like it was later with jews during middle ages.
Take for instance misconception of Eucharist, unfamiliar with such concepts as salvation and uniting with god Romans seen it as "WTF they symbolically eat god's flesh and drink god's blood? They ate their god wtf ffs fucking cultists"
No wonder Romans took measures and lulz were had at coliseum with lions and such. >:3
The Romans also got tired of the Jews, destroyed their temple, and exciled them from their homes so that it took them almost 2000 years to get back. A good solution to todays religious problems? Discuss.

Inventing radicals?
You seem to have some monolithic view of the Royal family and Saudi security structure. That they're a bunch of clones running around with the exact same thoughts churning around in their heads? There are individuals within the Saudi royal family and security apparatus that do subscribe to the teachings of Wahhabism and the radical and zealous world view that too often comes along with that school of thought.
Is it rampant and widespread? No. They do exist though. Even in a marginal capacity, it's a valid concern in my mind.
Overall I agree with your characterization of the Saudi regime. The Saudi's do a good job governing their country in their own iron fisted way.
RansomList, this is why I negrepped you. You are encouraging this. This post is your fault. If you want to stick your fingers in your ears and revenge negrep me because a red dot hurts your pride go ahead, but deep down you know what you did.
