One of the first ones, Medieval I think it was, was fucking terrible. The UI was annoying and the actual fighting gameplay was impossibly aggravating.
The rest, however, are the most fucking addictive and replayable games I've ever played. I used to play nothing but Rome: Total War every day after school for years, no joke. I was completely unable to bring myself to play another game. Medieval II was sick and incredibly hard too.
