For being a week after Tengus flying backwards, people sure have a lot of questions about how this surface-to-orbit combat is going to work.

Love that lukewarm applause at the end.
?"eve's a bad mmo, really bad, it's only saving grace is the people playing it, which i guess doesn't say great things about the people playing other MMOs"
So what happens when Sony has another month long outtage? Do space Jews have to wait it out? (I didn't want that space this month anyways) and in the same regard what happens when no one plays anymore (6 months after release) will you simply be unable to take SOV? (or whatever retarded goals you rely on dust faggots for)
I hadn't at the time, but I had seen the video where they make a big deal about everything having a price therefore if they are following eve at all you can lose it.
Now that I have read the dev blog I am no wiser because they do not say either way. So I am sticking with my original comment.
I.
Hate.
CCP.
Done.either that or sov war dies and we all go back to small scale pvp.
CCP has basically just thrown this game out the window, and is wasting development resources from here on out.
PS3 is a stupid platform to have an exclusive launch on, there have been about 0 multiplayer, online FPS titles (that aren't multiplatform) that attract a consistent crowd.
Also, there is a reason why nobody has made a hugely successful objective/campaign based FPS before. It's because FPS players don't care about it. The lifeblood of every single FPS every made has been the deathmatch multiplayer battles, the only exceptions are FPSRPGs like the half-life series, and halo to an extent I guess (the campaigns were pretty cool). Nobody cares about fucking with someone's spaceship empire, they just want to have fun in a well made/balanced game where they can fuck around with their friends. If I had a choice between logging into DUST and sitting around for a few hours while space shit is sorted out or something like ARMA or MW3 (that shit looks cool) that offers instant gratification (probably with better gameplay), it's pretty easy to see that I'd choose a fun FPS over DUST.
I'v played FPS's where you payed for gear on a per map/battlefield type thing, and it's worked fine, off the top of my head perfect dark's onlined used ingame currency to buy gear that only lasted one battle, and you got payed at the end of each match, there have been others, but none come to mind atm.
Heres the thing I think won't work..... FPSer players I don't think would like the idea of waiting 20 mins to get into a match, I think for the most part they are looking for instent gratification. Also alot of FPSer players are also really ignorant and loyal fanboies, like I play battlefield-BC2, and call of duty-black ops, and have friends that play both, but if ether group of friends see me playing the other one, they both make sure to tell me how shit the other game is.
I'll still end up buying the game i'm sure, and i'll wait till I play it before I judge it.
After watching the Battlefield 3 trailers Dust just looks like a complete pile of outdated shit. CCP is goign to have to come up with some kind of contingency plan when this fails so that sov in EVE is not decided by one guy logging into his Dust account to run and cap a planet flag somewhere.
Pretty much this. You splash a 10 second grab of BF3, or the latest COD, and the console forums explode. Dust has had barely a mention. Coupled with that, keeping the attention of the average console gamer for longer than the few months between Dust's release and the next version of the bigger titles will be nigh on impossible.
Fixed that for you.
Seriously though, where does this believe in EVE having a superior community come from? Because I'm pretty sure that the only thing stopping EVE comms from being just as insufferable as XBL is that people not on my team for the most part lack the means to communicate with me everything else about the experience syncs up perfectly. The fact that in EVE they aren't 13 years old (for the most part) isn't really an improvement.

Well, the truth hurts. My best example of what consoles do to FPSes is to point to OpFlash2 and compare that to ArmA2. I don't think you can get a more succinct example of what differentiates console players from PC players.
As to limiting dust to the playstation? Yeah, that's awesome. Let's use the company that's literally a multi-layered security piñata and keeps on giving.![]()
Theres really no reason to worry about how Dust will effect EvE. Since from the looks of it Dust will be fail at launch anyways. It seriously amazes me how CCP actually thought it was a good idea to release a single console based FPS in a over saturated market, being p much a unknown developer in the console world. Do the people who run CCP seriously have downs or some shit?
I thought I would get to play DUST514, I see that its no longer possible and I shall try and destroy all the planets that are under my command so none of those retarded PS3 fans could have fun at. Whos with me?
PS: After I sold my BF2 DVD (after some glorious ownage and many competitions (GameArena ladder, WCG etc)), I cant believe that I am the one to say, BF3 BF3 BF3!

As I understand it, they wanted to release on the XBox-360, but microsoft basically made it impossible for them by the terms & conditions they enforce. (eg: all downloads over 100Mb MUST be for-money DLCs: No big patches. No giving away the client for free either. Also all games must be hosted by Microsoft, so the whole link-to-TQ thing would be impossible, which would obviate the whole point of Dust in the first place. If MS refused to compromise on those conditions, then CCP would have no choice but to either cancel the project or launch as a PS3 exclusive)
I like how before E3 everyone was "I can't wait to grief those teenage console kiddies " and now they've seen the video and the defence laser its "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY GET TO SHOOT BACK
"
I look forward to seeing what comes of this game. Mostly because it's going to give everyone lots to moan about. I think that dust is an innovative concept but the graphics don't look amazing, the engine seems dated and the platform is going to be a huge disappointment. The whole idea seems like a funny "what if eve had little people fighting on planets" and we all go "haha yeah that'd be cool" and then nothing comes of it because honestly it wouldn't really add anything - it was just an interesting thought. Fortunately/Unfortunately for us, CCP had the money to /sort of/ pull this off and instead they alienated and apparently terrified their player base.
So yeah, again - I look forward to the DUST514 Release day. Whenever that will be ~
This is what I was partially saying from the beginning, although you stated it with much more context. In my view it should have been integrated on the same account, or at least to be available for the PC, with a client launcher for both eve and dust. I'm sure retardoeve players who already find it logical to run 15 accounts wouldn't have an issue picking another one for DUST even in the case that they didn't integrate in on an already running eve account. But thinking that they'll attract a new huge group of customers for their FPS is very stupid, the way it has been designed.

1 - Dust514 fails to grab attention for more than a couple of months.
2 - Dust514 becomes another title that came and went.
3 - EvE's interaction with Dust514 gets replaced with crappy AI.
or
3 - They launch a half-assed port to PC, and every EvE player gets it to spend time on instead of WoT.
EVE has existed for years across two and soon three generations of video games, because PCs change and are upgradeable. The PS3 is already dated, so what is going to happen when the PS4 comes out in early 2013? It's not like online games are a problem for the industry, and the scalability of retarded players is literally admitted by EA when it comes to consoles. Battlefield 3, their drivers say console players are too immature and lack any concept of teamwork for objectives, so their cap gets drained. So many things point to this being a failure, we can cross our fingers for the 10% chance that it is epic as hell and, if all goes well, in the nature of "necessary impossibilism". But we all know 95% of DUST sales will be neckbeards with 5 eve accounts on their consoles while also doing ops on their PCs.
This will be interesting once they have to release it for the PC.
hope they finish it soon though, my loki is still flying backwards.

I looked forward to this game, until the point when it was announced, Dust will be released for consoles only.
Not interested at all in console shit.
It's going to be similar to World War 2 Online. Which from subscription numbers and design focus was very very heavily slanted towards the flight sim parts of it, then down to tanks, then infantry. It's the same appeal as burning ants with a magnifying glass, except you know it's a real person, which makes it even more enjoyable. The only problem is, without artificial limits it ended up as a wing of planes chasing around a single tank, who in turn was chasing a single infantryman around.
Not Fun.
Battles ended up playing out one side basically making the over side quit fighting back, then one of them would spawn as infantry, hop in a truck, drive to the radio hop out, and cap it.
That's probably going to be DUST 6 - 12 months after release.
What I'd like to see:
Dust 514 sell a bunch of titles, CCP makes buckets of RL ISKIES and grows to become a more reputable game developer where they can finally hire more people to fix EVE.
What I predict:
CCP is going to implement something in the EVE universe where it relies on Dust. Dust is going to fall on it's face while breaking EVE far more than it already is.
The only project CCP will have left will be WoD and due to the beta testing they've done with Incarna and having a proven loved IP will become the WoW killer as frothing twilight teen girls will throw away their WoW accounts and run screaming to the new vampire MMO.
I'm utterly unsurprised by this. To my knowledge the only developer who ever broke out of the microsoft live bubble was Square Enix with FFXI on the 360 when it was launched. They had to make FFXI a hard drive install and the console basically rebooted into it and you lost all Live functionality until you exited. Given the 360's role now as purely a live service provider MS were never going to let that happen again.
Little big planet has this problem too. It ended up a PS3 exclusive because MS wouldn't let them do their own user content trading thing in game. I think only Bungie were allowed to do that with Forge in Halo but that was very very limited.
I might pick up a copy of dust for curiosity when it's rotting in a bargain bin in HMV 3 months after release.
Gameplay wise despite the crowd wowing trailers of shooting into space or onto planets they will never allow it. From either sides POV it's totally unfair. It will at worst make PI more irritating.
Looks stupid.

Stereotypes: The Thread
Haven't played BC2 for a while. I think I need to hop on it pretty soon. Expect to see me die a lot in the PL server....
Fuck yeah....but I highly doubt there will be anything real-time about the interaction or link between Dust and Eve. My guess is that what you'll be able to do from space will be hitting planet-side or orbiting structures that will open up the planet to surface action. Then, when the PS3 kiddies log on they'll be presented with a screen where they can choose a "mission" (if they're solo-type jump-right-in, short-attention-span crowd) and start fighting on the surface, or if they're part of a corp, schedule for them to play together (like a clan) and jump into a specific planet. How CCP expects to have eve-corps and dust-corps to communicate and coordinate for these actions, I have no idea. Maybe they think the eve players will also be playing dust? Dunno, but if that's the case they're even more delusional than I thought.
Fuck off. BF2 SUCKED BALLS. And don't even get me started on BF:V it was even more crappy (but in this case it was bugs, lag, performance issues but also horrible balance and design problems).
I've had, I think all BF PC-based games: BF1942 and most of its mods (DC was fucking awesome), BF2 (lame), BF:V (lame), BF2142 (good), BC2 (awesome). I don't think I missed any. So I am totally entitled to say BF2 sucked balls. I still played it a lot, though... :P
Ninja Edit: Do you remember the DC night-time maps that came later on? oooh I absolutely loved those.

Surprise Sex is the Best Way to Wake Up. Unless You're in Prison...
What do you mean? Isn't everyone else rushing out to buy a PS3 right now?![]()
Another point I meant to hit with the big bat of sanity but forgot...
Let's say the game gets three months of attention on the PS3 and only builds a community of ten thousand hardcore players. Other games come out, and the game itself isn't a colossal smash. Or the PS4 comes out earlier than what is expected and CCP goes "oh nos, we've been failboated!" Whatever would they do, oh nos!
They'd just... release a PC version of the game. Launching on the console with Sony support is an attempt to break out of their "Makes a PC MMO that a lot of super geeks like" box, develop new revenue streams. But at the end of the day, there's nothing stopping them from releasing a PC version of Dust should things not work out on the PS3. While it's easier to port 360 titles to the PC, it's not a herculean task to do a PC port of a PS3 game.
If CCP can do something akin to MAG with epic large population objective-based gameplay but as a Halo-looking space shooter, they'll get more than enough players to be a comfortable niche title that Sony will do a nice job of pushing pub for as it's one of the rare PS3 exclusives.
Console shooters are for the feeble.

its PS3 only because CCP is releasing it free on PSN then following their usual free updates plan, on the 360 anything over around 100mb has to be labelled as DLC and sold so Microsoft makes more money. Microsoft is also completely against the idea of PS3 and xbox gamers playing together, while sony doesn't really care, so to do both platforms CCP would have to have 2 shards one for each console.
Basically to facilitate the 360 CCP would have to adopt business practices which are the absolute polar opposite of their current model.
Another thing that people forget is that, even if CCP could only get half of 1% of the entire PS3 ownership worldwide to keep playing Dust, then that would still be 25,000 players.
