I still prefer Vinata's "He shoots" then "He scores" snipe. Everything else pales in comparison.
The problem is null sec is very boring the nap trains have killed any prospect of newer groups trying to do it on their own. This means, there are really no buyers to take these systems. I mean lets get real here, any group that did wanna give it a try would eventually steam rolled back to Empire by one power block or another.
Null sec is pretty much nothing but care bear lala land and most interested groups woulds rather rent from inside the safety zone of {insert random power bloc name here} blue list and any group that is actually semi competent and didn't want to be a renter is more than likely just gonna give it a go in a WH system where at least they have a chance away from the super cap blobs.

Why anyone would buy a station from PL just to be WTFPWN'd by Test/AAA/MannyBloc/ROL or whoever else is just sitting waiting for PL to leave makes no sense to me. If you want to live in nullsec and be independent u gotta do it in NPC 0.0 Sov space doesn't work for entities that cant field 500 daily.
Holding sov is fine as long as you're not trying to ninja it in the armpit of an existing powerbloc and your diplomats can demonstrate more charisma than a bag of wet sand

FYI, this "diplomat" method presented by Mpozoy is currently considered a game exploit. If you use it, expect to be petitioned by the BADPOSTER bloc.

All sov space is held by powerblocks already, and is why no new and independent alliance can go into sov nullsec and make a home for themselves; they either become someone's pet and join a massive NAPfest or they go to NPC nullsec where they'll most likely either stay forever, die, or decide NPC space isn't for them and go join a NAPfest.
I'd say this was a terrible thing and all coalitions are the work of the Devil, but luckily we have WHs for people who want the "nullsec experience" without the cocksucking.
If CCP devs ever decide to implement Phreeze's idea (I think it was his idea at least) of islands of nullsec only accessable through WH space life will be a lot better for the small independent alliances. If those systems were without local (but still had gates, mineable moons etc) it would also be a roamer's wet dream.
