Default Killzone 3 and Crysis 2 leak in same week

Brace for more spurious justifications for horrible DRM on a platform developers are treating like the red headed stepchild, followed by a rush to pirate the game and enjoy it without drm ruining the experience and the cycle repeating.

Both these leaks have followed strict adherence only releasing demo's on certain 'exclusive' platforms. Funny that, i wonder if its been much of a motivation to get the games out there?

Anyway, Crisis 2 looks horrible. The wide open sandbox style roaming gameplay from the first one is gone, replaced with call of duty style close up linear maps and seeming invulnerability- its almost impossible to die and entirely possible to run from the start of most level to the finish without actually firing a shot by running away from bad guys along the predefined path the game wants you to go along. From Crisis 1 to just another generic shooter, but with an invisibility mode.

No, its not a significant graphical improvement over Crysis 1 (multiplatform remember?) and there are mods out for crysis 1 that make it look BETTER than Crysis 2; actually, make it look better than any game currently near release or in development, some of the fans are quite talented at squeezing more out of cryengine. The game is pretty much finished and is release candidate + an armload of bugs.

Oh and the leak includes dev/mod tools that weren't going to be released with the game. Bye bye DLC profits, hello modding community

Killzone 3 just looks like milking it for all its worth. Its also a 40gb download with 3d vision, or 20gb without

Crysis wasn't the most sandboxy type game either, stop being so naive.

The leaked copy is an old build and doesn't contain any graphics settings higher than medium that work, and its stuck in DX9 mode with unfinished/broken campaign gameplay.

Say what? I can count the number of recent (~5 years) single player FPS campaigns in games that dont make you follow predefined routes with obvious invisible barriers, linear objectives and ways of achieving them and on one hand, maybe a few fingers more.

In Crisis, you could roam. Not to the extent of a game specifically designed for that but it never gave the feeling that you were playing something that took its inspiration from a rail shooter with heavily controlled almost interactive movie gameplay or generic FPS Call of Derp modern hurfware

you could roam about, but then you had to go through the predefined checkpoints to advance the mission.

Crysis was pretty fucking linear. It just did a half decent job at hiding it.

Also any chance of Sony unfucking themselves and releasing killzone 3 for the PC?

You will note i'm talking in terms of 'style' and 'feel' not 'Crysis is a sandbox game'

I'm also talking relative to to other games like COD in most of the posts above.

If you dont think Crysis I and COD franchise have very different styles of gameplay and specifically crisis had a sandbox style to it compared to COD thats your dysfunction and of course you will disagree with what i am saying.

Ah, ya. That's what I get for skimming your huge block of words. People tend to find choices intimidating, even the illusion of choices. They want a few, not many. Railroading doesn't seem to bother a lot of gamers so long as ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED

When I first heard about crysis I was excited because I thought the soldier in the story was going to simply have a futurewar suit. not be a "nanotech" based superhero".

Crysis not linear? Maybe the borders weren't visible but it was nothing but checkpoint a, b, c, etc...

There were always multiple means of attack and approaches you could take in each part of the game; bar some of the sucky 'something importants happening in this one room' moments or the end on the aircraft carrier. It was as much a side effect as setting a lot of the game OUTSIDE but i never felt constrained by my surrounding and never once ran into an invisible wall.

and again, I've been talking about style and feel

Crysis 2 Demo has autoaim on by default on PC- in multiplayer. FOV defaults to what you need for playing on a TV, 3 graphics settings with no customization.

Sounds like a bad case of consoleitis there bub.

Crytek UK did the multiplayer and they have never developed for PC before. Welp

Anyone that is going to raise a hand and stutter that its a Demo can stop sticking their head in the sand- when someone releases a Demo these days, its the finished game with limited content. Oh and the Demo seems to be more of the same based on what people saw in the leak.

Or they have adapted a control system they know many soldiers will already be proficient with?

its a straight copy of the 360 demo to save time.

Its missing graphics customisation and several other pc things as a result.

Sorry to break this to you, but the PC version is being released as DX 9 only. Just like the leaked game that was DX9 but Crytek said wasn't representative of the retail game.

Crysis 2 PC is going to be a horrifying console port, which you only care about if you play it on PC or recognize the direction gamedesign has been forced down by the console market.

[Arrador] possesses a considerable understanding of ship configurations, strengths and weakness. He gives clear and purposeful instructions, is good at taking advantage of the fleet-composition he's dealt, and never loses sight of the main goal: fun. This, paired with an excellent tolerance for strong drink gives him an almost Churchillian capability to win, despite being completely pissed on booze most of the fleet operation.

Just a reminder that the reason the console market has increased is because it makes more money, due to PC games being much more easily pirated.

Console games aren't difficult to pirate, haven't been for a while and dont quote PS3 at me because the moment they disabled Other OS it got broken.

Losses due to piracy are relevant, but not nearly as much as publishers would like you to believe and a lot of the arguments trotted out are misleading. Developers also have themselves to blame in large part for piracy on the PC. This is HUGE topic we should have a proper thread on sometime.

PC Gamers are also, generally speaking, more discerning/harder to please than Console gamers, more vocal when something they dont like happens and dont play on a standardized system thats easy to develop for.

We have an interesting situation atm where current gen consoles are starting to look long in the tooth and somewhat holding back advances in gaming.

Or to rephrase it again, console gamers tend to be a younger demographic that while technically aware (and considerably more so than their parents) dont have the aptitude that goes with such knowledge. Something people with a few more years tend to do, if they are gamers, at least more often than console kiddies.
