I first had internet at home about 16 years ago, and back then, the normal stance for everyone was: Your real name NEVER goes online. EVER!
What changed is that now everyone is an attention whore who actually believes that the world (or even their friends) cares what time it is when they take a shit. Bottom line, if you don't want it online, don't get it online. Social networking websites are shop windows where you put yourself on display (which is fine for most).
The best you could hope for, is doing what I did, and have a username/mail that can't be related to you ingame/facebook/etc. but plastering the same username and pictures all over the internet takes care of that.
If you put it in a public place, it will be used. If you don't care, fine. If you do care, don't upload it.
I am 100% sympathetic to people who get their information hacked or otherwise stolen, but a situation like this is like writing your own phone number on a public bathroom wall and get upset when the calls start coming in.
