You have two people who couldn't fluently speak/write/understand english if their life depended on it with literally ZERO experience in journalism, reporting or interviewing running an online news site written in english.

They don't really get offered too much help because at the end of the day all of the decisions are made by the two dudes who are the least informed. I did journalism in the Marines and teach print / web-based journalism to high school students and that site gives me such a headache I don't even bother. I'd offer to be the site's editor if I didn't think that they'd circumvent/ignore the process I'd set up.

But I'm not going to flame without offering some help so here's some tips:

- You don't fucking print or quote someone without speaking to them first. When you print a quote from someone, you're essentially saying that he/she said that to you. Sure it's internet spaceships, but if you want credibility you're going to have to earn it.

- There's such a thing as 'fact checking' that you're required to do in the journalism field. You get something printed that's not factual, you're liable to get fired on the spot because your organization loses face when it has to run a retraction. What's the lesson learned? Don't post shit until you're sure it's true. This means validating the information with multiple unbiased sources.

- Your stories should get copy-edited by at least four different people before it goes to print. There's always shit that people are going to miss and noone's going to take you seriously if you're known as illiterate faggots who cba to spell check each others shit. This means you should probably hire on three or four copy-editors who check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. They shouldn't change content, that's the editors job.

Basically just step off your fucking high horse and realize that your site is shit because you two don't know the first fucking thing about proper reporting and ignore any help or suggestions because your heads are lodged up each others asses.

First appreciate that you took your time and pointed out some problems and how would you solve them. What you describe would be very cool, however what is missing is the necessary amount of people doing this. Remember people do this in free time and outside of me / rive they get a little bit of isk - compared to hour work it is nothing, but than again, its hobby and not professional site. I would be happy if one person would copy/edit them when possible. So the jobs are open and youre more than welcome to look at them. I just want that fresh stories are fresh and they can´t wait for days.

I started the site and contributed maybe more than 50%. Sure they might be shit in your eyes, but what is wanted mostly is speed and actual informations about whats going on. The downfall of Eve-Tribune was that it was slow, the same ISD. You don´t want to go check facts with 4 people and than publish today fall of LXQ to NC. People log in to get a general idea whats going on, today or yesterday.

Sometimes people don´t post nothing cause none writer was online or none had anything interesting to say. Than you have to fill the site with maybe not some breath taking stuff, but little bit normal stuff. For that we still need authors too, just basic battle here, station there, capital gank etc. from the 30+ people that aproached us in last few weeks, only handfull remains after first article, as it is really hard to keep posting and some of those takes days to make - people should try to write something and do it 8x times a day

The site is free and accesses by free will, what you describe is professional organization, where i would love to get. Your conclusion that its shit cause iam shit seems logic to you and it will be hard conversation between us. AS i don´t think youre shit, even if you insult others. You might be a high school teacher but you lack some social skills than should come with the job you say you do. Cause that would be professional and not calling others shit, when i have different opinion.

So far i have gotten in this thread is mostly pure unadulterated bitching in a "me too" fashion (save for some really helpful posts), nobody here haven't mentioned something we didn't already knew and we haven't been addressing (rome didn't got built overnight), we have a huge amount of information been moved daily, and i can assure you, we are trying our best.

About 80% of the stories on the site were written by me; most of them were submissions by other EVE players that I pretty much tore apart and rewrote to my liking. A few were hit or miss; I think one or two were legitimately good.

There were no copy editors, and I was the only editor on the site that actively worked through stories. I'd have continued if the workload wasn't so large.

Thats the problem, in the end youre mostly alone, i feel you bro. Thats why most of eve related news sites are dead or will be within 1 month when they start. And i tell you when i come home after work, the last thing i want is to write articles for 2 hours

Writing a site in ur native is already hard, try doing it in another language (imagine having a site in spanish or czech) that said, we are still actively looking for editors, ppl have approached in a "what's in store in exchange for my work" manner, that will just not work, we are a collaboration community with incentive to dedicated members, we aren't paying salaries and ppl must keep that clear.

Responding to critiques with shitty pictures and even more shitpoasting doesn't project a very good image of someone who actually takes criticism. Also, I'm not a high school teacher... I teach journalism to high school students. It's a volunteer thing because I love the subject.

I understand that when you don't have the staff, resources or time that it's hard to really get something major happening, but filling space with factually inaccurate fluff because of lack of stories doesn't help either. And when news breaks, you don't quote the first aspie faggot to start sperging... it's not like you have a cross-town news rival. Wait an hour or two to speak with some people who won't troll you and are well-informed, take the time to write a good and informative story and then print. I think that if you shift your focus on quality instead of quantity, you'll reduce your workload and more people will enjoy EN24.

My biggest issue with EN24 (apart from the grammatical problems, which have improved dramatically recently) is that articles are published with obvious and shocking bias. The most recent example is this post: http://www.evenews24.com/2011/01/26/...k-in-nc-hands/

I mean, what the hell? The sheer stupidity of that post caused me to e-rage. The content itself is largely fine and probably newsworthy, but the blatant NC spin on it is just absurd. If someone sends you an article like that, I'd expect you to just reject it for not fitting the editorial standards of the site. If the content itself is still newsworthy, then rewrite it to remove the spin.

Until the ridiculous propaganda stops being accepted (from anyone), EN24 will always be awful.

I read eve news 24 once, and I was shocked at how biased it was. Not to mention that everything was editorialized out the ass, which is not how NEWS should be reported. Yea, go ahead and try to compare shitty cable mass media news stations. Nobody with a brain inside their skull (that actually uses it), believes that these are "credible" news outlets anymore, and they themselves (the network execs) have pointed out that their purpose is ENTERTAINMENT first and then maybe reporting facts that are relevant to current events. If you wanted to be the Fox News of EVE, congratulations, you have succeeded.

If you want to legitimately publish news-worthy items, you need to clearly differentiate editorial articles and make them separate from the news.
