there's a population of gamers that really /needs/ to be in 'the best' clan, corp, or organization. these guys float from org to org in order to ensure that they can feel good about being with the most elite crew. the 'most elite' crew in eve changes every few years; it was once m0o, then bob, then probably some shit like outbreak, and now it's pee ell.

(this is not to say that these entities are 'identical' to one another, i'm not shadoo making a 'new bob' joke, merely that there's this population and it chases 'the best' like a starfucker after a celebrity)

anyway joiners are dangerous because they have no real loyalty but will wrap themselves in the flag of the joined entity and usually make a mess of things. in the pl case your prime example is manny. the enthusiasm of the convert, etc

i think it's a pretty fascinating demographic as the joiners are the sworn enemy of new, unskilled players, as the joiners define themselves by their not-new-ness. so historically goonswarm is typically opposed by whichever group has the biggest collection of 0.0 joiners.

note that there are, ofc, various flavors of joiner; your 'nonsov elite pvp' guys will probably go for hydra or outbreak, but your 'hardened nullsec warrior' guys are going to go for bob/pl, your 'best pirate' guys will chase veto or R&K or whoever's king shit of the lowsec poop mountain

They don't care, they make fun of shit, they have fun in the game still and EVE isn't some giant fucking ordeal they suffer through like Goons now do, where no joke is funny unless they play it first.
