THE FOOLISH TACTICS AND STRATAGEMS OF REALM AMERICA ARE LAID BARE BEFORE TODD. KNEEL BEFORE TODD.
It looks like he is a bulletproof superman and was that a quicktime event in disguise fighting that guy off?

Very high hopes. Didn't actually buy BFBC2 (purely because I forgot it was out for 6 months and then thought I might as well wait), but this November will be then age of sploding!
Anyone interested in a Kugutsumen clan? I know PL already have this shit set up but for us non leetkids a clan might be nice
Steam group exists. I dont thnk there are enough people here that would actively play together regularly to make a 'clan'. I'll hit the PL/Reddit/OCuK servers when the game comes out
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
I don't like playing games on PC or Mac... I spend most of my days working on a computer so I am happy to play games on consoles.
Our BC2 server is paid up till BF3 releases ( I think we're paid till november or october) then we are probably fully switching over to BF3. Today we nearly had a full 32 guys just from PL (plus Grim is pretty much constantly on) and all of them are pretty regular.
How does PL manage blue balls? With a massive HoN and BFBC2 following so we have shit to do between the 3 hour waits for fights.
On the inside, I'm hoping that CCP followed the BF series closely for their FPS model, shit, at this point I'd even take UT3 like game play, just no CoD bullshit please and tia.
Yeah, the PL BC2 server is a good one
Did you ever play the UT2004 mod Defense Alliance? Hell, UT2004 as a basic model for gameplay (and with the same kind of large maps like ONS-Torlan) would be a superb model to build on for CCP.On the inside, I'm hoping that CCP followed the BF series closely for their FPS model, shit, at this point I'd even take UT3 like game play, just no CoD bullshit please and tia.
On the other hand, console only. So CCP get the finger here.

PL server is fun because you are able to kill people there you wouldn't have a chance against in eve. Getting pulled on their mumble is great because you can listen to Grath rage, make fun of Rive's accent, and see how many gustavs it takes to make centra mad.

BF3 should have the XM-25 as a weapon
I want these for my tank:

As such, after cutting its teeth in a number of open-world outings over the years, DICE has opted to adopt a more linear approach to Battlefield 3's combat, echoing Call of Duty's scripted antics rather than the sandbox-flavoured battles of Battlefield 2: Bad Company.
"I don't see it as an absolute goal for all games to be sandbox games. We've been building sandbox games for quite some time and we've got pretty good at it, but I don't see that as the only way of building games, because then we wouldn't build campaigns at all," said Bach.
"In some cases they aren't, but in most cases sandbox games are hardcore, boring, hard to get into and they are not very popular.”
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
pffff.
Bf2 was already scripted - Just look at the mini-map.
[Arrador] possesses a considerable understanding of ship configurations, strengths and weakness. He gives clear and purposeful instructions, is good at taking advantage of the fleet-composition he's dealt, and never loses sight of the main goal: fun. This, paired with an excellent tolerance for strong drink gives him an almost Churchillian capability to win, despite being completely pissed on booze most of the fleet operation.
he is talking about the single player you hurrdurr
nobody buys battlefield for the single player
That was the biggest issue with COD is that it was entirely scripted. After 1 run through you would know where all the bad guys were, how many would be in a hallway, if a room was empty or not, etc.
Sandbox is better, they are just lazy.

i'm not an advocate for linearisation but some of BC2 singleplayer could have done with being a bit more focused.
I can see where he is coming from.
Sandbox games are clearly better. I really liked Far Cry2, and how you could go anywhere on the map and meet objectives whenever you liked. The only annoying part was killing the same guards at the same checkpoint for the 50th time in a row each time you went down that road.

Controlled airburst guns have been around for a while, but they have the same problem as powered armour: noone wants to pay for them.
They were originally supposed to be part of the landwarrior system.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Well, why would anyone want to pay for them?
Cost/Benefit kills these programs because life is cheap and the US military has only had to worry about poor brown people for the last decade or so, or people using outdated shit tier military assets that can be mopped up with tech conceived in the 80's.
The technology exists to put soldiers in lightweight full body Armour with integrated coms/nightvision/climate systems/tactical overlay already. Quite apart form the cost of doing this, the top brass tends to resist change; just look at the drama after/during the Korean war when the Army was deciding what its service rifle would be and what caliber to go with. That shift in doctrine took some time.
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
Cost is the issue. I dont see how the Army can afford to give each soldier advanced armor, thermal scopes, and all that other stuff, no matter how great it would be. That article did say a brigade deployed with those tools, it would be interesting to see how they performed relative to the old army.

You're also too busy jizzing over "oh man super awesome robot armor" to think about if it would actually be useful at all for the type of combat we're likely to engage in. The better we get at wiping out insurgents, the more they decide to just use IEDs.
?"eve's a bad mmo, really bad, it's only saving grace is the people playing it, which i guess doesn't say great things about the people playing other MMOs"
There are 2 ways to beat an insurgency:
1. Kill everyone. They can't resist if they are all dead (see Boer War)
2. Win hearts and minds, have good local partners (see post war Greece)
Crysis warsuits, lasers, and all other gadgets might help you kill people, but in the end military hardware won't defeat terrorists.
But a division of land warriors would be signifigantly more effective than your standard light infantry division.

Really? But a division of land warriors would be significantly more effective than your standard light infantry division.
In the deployments there are currently, would this be the case, especially on a cost/training ~ benefit basis it just doesn't seem worth it.
I'm not sure how accurate this graphic is anymore, but this is the costs purely on Equipment alone:
Not inclusive of increased support and logistics needed to maintain all this, costs of dropping existing contractual agreements, costs of re-training existing troops etc...

More on topic:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...-cash4ea.ars/2you might as well spend a bit of money on Battlefield 2: Complete Collection or Battlefield: Bad Company 2, selling for $20 each on Steam. You're probably going to end up spending the money anyway on BFP4F, and those other, older games offer substantially more graphical splendor, and considerably richer gameplay mechanics to boot. All for a one-time cost.
For those that haven't had the 'pleasure' of trying BF play for free, its truly awful. Its also a glimpse of things to come insofar as EA's vision of the future of micro transactions. I'd rather see BF3 crash and burn and ruin the franchise forever than for a system that bears ANY resemblance to BF play for free gain mass support like that of a AAA title like BF3 might give it.
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
I can't find the link at the moment, but when it comes to military aquistition a small amount of the price is RDT&E, a larger slice is procurement, and about 2/3 is operations/support. Also, we usually end up paying 2-3x what the contractor initially says.

Everyone is terrible at hearts and minds in Afghanistan. We cant protect remote community's that reject the disparate militias up there, most of them are local boys in any case so we are asking people to break family ties. If they do they get punished. So for most people, they try and play both sides and live best they can.
Add in that the state is corrupt as fuck and supremely uninterested in bringing rural Afghan esp that bordering Pakistan into the fold so long as it control s the perceived prosperous heart of the country and we have a recipe for malcontent. Local politics is riven along tribal and religious lines and self interest- if you want a gov job you bribe your way into it, it smacks of officers commissions and old style royal monopoly.
Not Dead, Just Sleeping
Its almost as if a people need to have a certain amount of education and enlightenment before democracy can work without turning into a corrupt dictatorship?
