This forum had some good stuff when I had access as it is leadership/fcs only so it best do.
I actually never really understood that but whatever. I mean, who has access to foreplay except bittervets or people who never played anyway?
Some porn would be nice but i guess it will be dumped into foreplay for some months and never read, then put on the open forums in hopes someone is retarded enough to read shit thats not relevant anymore.

Literally nine tenths of our stuff doesn't even make it to Foreplay, its sort of disheartening.

Stuff in Foreplay does actually get dissected and recorded (or 'read'), at the very least on an individual level- and occasionally things get spotted that were missed by our munificent spymaster overlords in more secretive parts of the forum, there is also the fact that many eyes make for fast work and a forum can be stripped of absolutely anything that might be of tactical or economic or just straight downright dirty metagaming use in the initial feeding frenzy that happens when a 'new mirror' appears. The stuff in Foreplay is what a competent 0.0 entity (yeah, subjective personal opinion) should have access to if they have an interest in intelligence, although perhaps wider in scope so far as the number of alliances/corps detailed.
I do think the last few things to pop up in Foreplay could have been released to the 'Public' sooner, but i haven't compared what was released to whats in Foreplay to see how much time was spent redacting things. Stuff in Foreplay is certainly not always 'fresh' when its put there, but its still relevant to people that keep an eye on how groups in EVE are developing.
The problem with giving people part of a forum community unrestricted access to immediate, up to date intel is you have to be absolutely certain where their interests lie in game or you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Given that the leadership of any bloc/entity of sufficient size will almost certainly have access to all it's enemies (and probably allies) forums anyhow, there is little strategic value in limiting access to us "average joes" beyond the financial aspect (since foreplay access can be purchased). That being said I see nothing wrong with doing it to makes some ISK - just that I don't think a great deal of harm can be done in-game with any of this,
And if you take more cynical view of the goings on in a major alliance, for reasons of stability it may very well be more important to keep the information concealed from your own members than the enemies directors. Politics is a messy business, especially when it comes to sharing the spoils , and it's human nature for the corporations to compare what their neighbours are getting out of the deal at least as much as what their needs are. Keeping a lid on the process of doing alliance politics keeps it from turning into a more widespread drama among the member base.

Actually there have been some people getting access for e.g. digging through the IT mirror o bnte blog section or different stuff who are neither bitter vets and even active in-game, hth.

Unfortunately there's no mirror because everyone I know sucks with httrack and K wasn't around to do it himself (he msn'd me less than 10 minutes after access was lost :v)

And neither would have done it since they are still allied with the north. There really should be a quick how to guide on how to do this with a link to a program download on this site but I guess it would make K feel inadequate.

I don't really see the big deal, i think they should release forum logs periodically. Not like there is any burning secrets to be had and would help to prevent ignorant shit being written on the premise they believe it will remain anonymous.

That is exactly what happened with BoB and believe it or not that did have an effect on ally/pet participation.

It can be a bit awkward capturing passwords on some boards and it doesn't like proxies very much, but the latter is probably just the setup of the one i use.
Other minor irritations are mirroring depth, you may have to run a project several times with different settings to get everything you want as every forum is different.

I don't mind I already told everyone to use Pavuk. Usually Mittani, Vio and others make really shitty and incomplete mirrors.
Well, they made no conscious decision to open their forum beforehand so people knew that the threads would eventually become public. People post all sorts of shit if they are under the impression it wont get out.

You've also said of Pavuk that you need to know how to write something that sounds technical, which is fine if you are an IT professional but, well....you see where i'm going.
I use HTtrack, its easy enough for someone that isn't a complete wombat to use and you can even teach yourself the more complicated bits with the wondrous internet; like getting it to copy the parts of a website that require login.

No, pavuk comes with a UI as well. It's not that user-friendly as Httrack but it's a lot more customizable. I didn't like Httrack myself as I couldn't figure out how to make it work with SMF..
