It appears that "the Final Jewdown" was an apt title.

Quit being coy fucks for people who can't use jabber at work![]()
There's not much to say. They've zeroed the LP amounts, they've taken datacores and other bits and pieces that weren't involved. Me and some goons contacted a PCgamer editor who replied pretty much instantly.
People are shouting DARIUS JOHNSON FUCKING US ALL HEH but dude's just doing his job - we don't agree with how he's doing it, v0v.
No official word of what they've done, why they've done it, to what extent as of yet. Just word of the six dudes involved as they watched things disappearing from their cargoholds.
Goonswarm 2012: Didn't Really Want To Be Space Rich Anyway
I really give no fucks if some guys found a yellow brick road paved with CCP ineptitude and got dirty rich because of it.
I can't get certain images out of my head, though. Imagine a small cadre of derivative traders looking through all the new central bank rules, various securities laws, bond rating systems and foreign exchange rates, aiming for an advantage. You end up with subprime crisis and whatever else. Sure, it's not the same. Yes, this is just a game. But, poorly written and unenforced laws make for a similar shit stew, regardless of context.
I'm really not surprised. The "omg sony" hyperbole is a bit much.
so you got shit taken away?

Helios Black > not mad ron
Yeah. They're all still incredibly rich, and have sums ranging from 100 bill to multiple trillions in their wallets, but they've had everything taken away. The biggest dude hit had 250b taken on TOP of the five trillion he'd embezzled.
Why the hell did they take away stuff that had nothing to do with the actual jewry?
so basically nothing was lost?
just curious b/c that's a huge scam which was awesome. just wondering what the actual fallout was. below baseline or above?
Ron Mexxico - Broski North
Helios Black > not mad ron
Actual taking by Sreegs and the CCP SECURITY team was everything they had embezzled from the market manipulation plus over 250b worth of UNRELATED datacores and other shit that they had laying around.
As I said, CCP haven't carpetbombed and basically neg-walleted the dudes, just taken away everything they embezzled plus some collateral damage.
Although I can't speak for the dudes, and obviously the losing of so much ISK - trillions and trillions and trillions that was the result of hard work and intricate knowledge of game mechanics - is a bummer, they achieved something pretty fucking radical and even if they don't get the ISK back, they're pretty chuffed with themselves for doing what they've done. And rightly, I think. It's a great scam.
Why the unrelated shit![]()
Best explanation is that the items taken were related to Factional Warfare but bought weeks before and, therefore, had no part of the scam. CCP must've seen items related to Factional Warfare and just nabbed everything.
However many billions of isk worth of stockpiled minerals were blown up for LP that was then zeroed or traded for goods that were taken would be collateral as well.
Oh look, it's the sound of Darius Johnson wringing his hands over whether to fuck goons or not. I bet he was up all night wrestling with the moral dilemma.By way of explanation we addressed the manipulation issue but haven't yet completed the investigation into the scope of the abuse. Once that happens I'm pretty sure some people are going to be a bit less smug about the money they made that one time when there was a bank error in their favor and then lost again when the bank fixed the glitch.
Would you like a guide to how not to fuck your old friends?
1. Don't use words to describe the situation that clearly show bias toward one interpretation of events.
2. Clearly show the way in which you have arrived at your decision.
3. Explain how you will ensure this kind of thing does not occur again and how players can help to prevent such a thing.
4. Be clear and fair if you remove assets from the people involved and do not take more than you should. Do not treat the involved parties as criminals.
5. Treat the entire event like some kind of hilarious and clever prank. Post with good humor. Contact the media and speak about the involved parties as clever players and turn the entire event into positive advertising.
6. If you're fair, unbiased and reasonable even the people you're taking isk away from will probably be okay with it. They certainly seemed like they were expecting to be caught and that the damage would be repaired.

As much as peopleover this CCP shouldn't be punishing the people who found out how to legitimately game a system that they created and released.
Gonna have to agree. There's shit that is very obviously the game not working the way it is supposed to - case in point, negative tracking through wormhole penalty stacking - and then there was this, which was all of the game mechanics as written, designed, and implemented working precisely the way they were supposed to. CCP simply didn't anticipate what said implementation would result in, which isn't exactly the fault of the cabal responsible. After all, CCP didn't anticipate there'd ever be more than a half-dozen titans in game either, but we don't see them retroactively getting rid of titans #7 through #whatever-many-hundred we're on now.
Nah, once CCP decided it was an exploit the cabal was going to get fucked over hard (and I'm not going to think too much about the duck like qualities of what they did).
It's not so much the money made that was the problem, it's the knock on effect on the market and hence other players. There will be people that lost out because of this, and because CCP has decided that they lost out to something that is now considered cheating, CCP had to take action.
The funny thing about this was that isk was actually removed from the economy by doing it.
You guys basically did dr. eggnoggs job for him
CCP really are shockingly bad at what they do. At every god damn level.
Except Veritas, he's fucking awesome.
They haven't said anything about punishment, only that the gains would be removed.
As much as CCP likes to talk up a sandbox where the playerbase makes the rules for the most part and the forces of the market correct everything, they do have an obligation to ensure the game remains in a playable state for players. It could be that they see FW as a protected-class, or don't like rewarding people for design oversights, or even that they foresee a much bigger problem of ever increasing ripples in the economy as the people with the knowledge to exploit them has an exponentially increasing amount of resources to build upon whenever they find a loophole. Regardless of the explanation it's not like any of this involved other players directly. This wasn't them intentionally purchasing all the Amarr ice on obvious GSF chars/alts and cashing in 7 days later, it was the players versus mechanics with everyone else just kinda along for the ride.
Sreegs just posted that LP were confiscated to prevent a crash of FW markets, so no punishment just yet.

of course Sreegs' explanation doesn't make any sense - he gave the involved parties more than enough time to panic and crash markets between his "some people are going to be a bit less smug" statement and the confiscation of LP/LP store items 1.5 days later. Why should they start to liquidate & launder now?
Why is Sreegs involved at all? Is he their pet bully now? This isn't a security issue, this is a dumbass programmer being lazy issue.
Fact is that CCP didn't move until the news hit major gaming news outlets...

Thing is, six guys pulled in the spoils meant for hundreds or thousands of players over the course of months or years in a matter of days. It was certainly creative, but hardly intended from the designer's perspective.
If anybody got banned for this, I'd think that was a mistake, but confiscation of ill-gotten gains is needed to keep FW viable for everybody else.
CCP said they were gonna use FW as a testing bed for revamping sov warfare. I hope they are taking notes.![]()
That is about the most fitting response I can summon for this. Well played goons, well played.
[Arrador] possesses a considerable understanding of ship configurations, strengths and weakness. He gives clear and purposeful instructions, is good at taking advantage of the fleet-composition he's dealt, and never loses sight of the main goal: fun. This, paired with an excellent tolerance for strong drink gives him an almost Churchillian capability to win, despite being completely pissed on booze most of the fleet operation.
Christ I wonder if Sreegs cries in his shower trying to clean off the posts of the pubbies agreeing with him in that thread.
But he'll never be clean![]()
Yea this is the dilemma I'm sure CCP face. On one hand it's pretty cool that players can do this kind of stuff in game, but on the other hand the spoils of war so to speak were far too great and that kind of massive ISK generation among such a small group is very bad for the game and would likely affect FW & other players for a very long time.
Heist/Scam/Abuse of the year award, or do you think someone will top this before next January?
The ONLY isk sink was when the LP's were used to buy the implants as they also cost a small amount of ISK when converting the LP to goods. Far as the ISK removed from the Goon members by CCP, that's not really a legit ISK sink. Much the same as getting ISK removed for being caught RMTing isn't.
if nothing else you guys are my heroes, giving me a good story to read and borderline firesaling datacores and skillsbooks prob netting me 10b profit after its resold in 2-3 weeks.( I gambled on ccp either banning you or stealing all your shit, making you unable to contiune to firesale).
if ccp had let you kept firesaling my items would have been close to worthless![]()

I'd also like to thank Goonswarm for burning all those pretty minerals in the pursuit of dem el pees. Didn't really want Trit prices below 6 per anyway.
The guys involved knew there was a chance of this happening, hell several didn't get involved because they thought this might happen. The problem and main complaints comes from the fact that CCP nuked a large amount of assets unrelated to this issue (some which had existed for months prior to Inferno), zero'd their LP balance regardless if they had LP prior to this and they did all this without informing the people involved.
Surely, due to the mineral manipulation, miners will end up richer because of this?
Jewbal helping out miners the mind boggles
MAD props all round guys, and sorry CCP Sreatshitanddieegs decided to be a buttbaby about it. 'til next time I guess ~
I've noticed that there's a pretty big disconnect between the general consensus of kugu and what's actually happening. It seems enough people have said it in this thread that people are taking it as fact.
