    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but no . The IGB is only a substite/enhancement to the current menu system. The createContract function for example only opens the contract dialog with the specified items and type pre-selected.
The above seems to suggest that while you can spam links to javascript that will generate the 'Give Money' or 'Create Contract' window with the specified details pre-populated, the user would still have to confirm the transaction.

Has scope in advertising contracts that say one thing and then using the javascript to pre-populate a contract saying something completly different while hoping the person doesn't check properly but that's just like any old contract scam now really.

Now who do we know with massive R&D resources dedicated to scamming, even larger resources dedicated to discovering game mechanic loopholes, a dense community of coders and a notorious reputation for spamming local chat with html links and other noise

Scamming won't work unless the user sets the site to trusted, and any exploitation to circumvent that would quickly get petitioned.

There [s]is also[/s] should also be no way to actually make the client send ISK or accept a contract, what it will be able to do is open the Send ISK to dialogue. You still have to like click ok and stuff.

Guess what that does. Tip: Use http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/t...character_name.
Not all JS methods requires trust. But I am sure the ones above do.

But it could also mean that if one of your trusted sites becomes rogue and uses you as part of a "botnet" for a conversation spammer to spam convos to other people. (When you start convos in game there's no verification popup.) win win?

inviteToFleet(id) could also mean automated mass invite via a ID DB.

buyType(id) is interesting could be use to simplify buying ship fittings and such with a click of a button, haven't tested it yet.

So, sending people poisonous links in game that open convos with thousands of people at once at fill the screen with crap is now possible due to the wonders of Javascript?

What about signing them up to dozens of mailing lists and in game channels? If someone doesn't have the option ticked to have new windows open in existing thats going to create an unholy mess.

I think it means never ever ever click a link from someone you don't trust, unless you can hover over it to see its a contract or fleet invite.

If you had the reading comprehension of an 8th grader you could have figured it out, clearly though, that skill is eluding you.

Clicking on links is not a problem. Just do not trust random websites. All of the new JS methods require trust.

Javascript is a scripting language used mostly on the internet to make web pages more interactive. For example, with JavaScript you can auto-populate forms or change the content of a page based on the user's input without having to reload the whole page.

CCP has created JavaScript methods within the In-Game Browser so that player-developers can interact with your game client with their web pages. As a personal project, I threw together a website for the Caldari Militia that uses the IGB Javascript methods extensively. It was a while ago and only used a little bit as proof of concept, but was a fun way to learn the IGB methods and some of the ways they could be applied.

Check out http://cognitiveindustries.com/ships.php using your in-game browser, and click different things on the page. Some of the cool ones are clicking on the pictures of the ships, and then click on the ship model name next to "View this model in EVE:" and you can see if you have the skills to fit that ship.

Disclaimer: The site was done just to learn the IGB methods, I know the fits are crap and the site is lolrp but I don't care :P

I do think that the concept could be useful for alliance programs, like approved ship fits and reimbursement programs.

One of the best things about the new JavaScript methods is that you can automate a lot of the tedious things about buying and fitting ships. For example, you could have a webpage up with an approved fit and the site can automatically open the market window to the various fittings you need to buy for it.

Also, with the new ability to create contracts, you could have it linked to your killboard and if someone loses an approved reimbursable ship, the site can pop up an automatic contract window for you that you just need to approve to give them the money for it, or even a contract for a whole new fitted ship without you having to go through and do anything. Just have a director log into the website and click a button that checks for new reimbursable ships, and it can pop up a contract window for you to approve.

On my own corp site, I have a script that links to my API to see how much fuel is in my POS, and then automatically calculates what I need to buy. So I go to Jita, open the website and it opens the market window for me and tells me what number to type in. I do my own PI for most POS fuel, but even when you are doing it AFK at work, you can only ice-mine for so long :P

Honestly, digging into the IGB has been one of the most fun things I've done in EVE for a while. The potential to make life easier for small corps and big alliances is amazing.

    Obligatory

    and a tangent

Some form of basic programming should be taught in schools just as Maths, English and Science are considered core subjects, even if its just theory. Schoolchildren get 'IT' lessons, but these are about using Microsoft Excel and crap like that which Kids really dont need to be taught.

I very much agree. For a lot of kids, or teenagers in high school, it's a great, constructive, and creative outlet.
When my brother was about 8 or 9 I taught him some HTML and a few others things and he LOVED creating little websites and things to show his friends.

Learning a programming language is great for your problem solving skills, your critical thinking skills, and learning to think outside the box. Also, the sense of accomplishment you feel when you have an idea and create something cool out of nothing is awesome, and encouraging.

The problem most schools would have is that teaching theoretical computer science is almost like teaching logic which gets dangerously close to encouraging critical thought

    It's true.
You have to teach them critical thought at the end of their schooling. Teachers realize that if they teach it too early, the students will apply those skills to their lessons...

Eh... Not so sure i agree. My time as a pupil insofar as science education came with the understanding that a lot of what we were learning would need to be unlearned, but it was useful in describing the basic concepts or principles of systems too complex to be taught straight off the bat. Critical thinking was encouraged and was useful in subjects such as History and English (i dont understand how anyone can study either subject at GCSE level or abov without those skills); the only area where some problems were caused was in what passed for religious studies, but the three individuals that taught that were disparate, being an erudite lapsed Catholic, a protestant with multiple degrees in the sciences and a borderline militant evangelical that tried to act like a humanist lest he scare the normal people.

As far as the actual teachers, there was always a lot of back and forth. If someone had a problem with something that was trumpeted as fact they could discuss it critically without getting a BECAUSE I SAID SO SHUT UP AND LEARN BY ROTE thrown at them. I will freely admit i had a privileged education that's not representative of the UK as a whole, but the point i want to make is i think that a truly good teacher should both teach people to examine things critically as pertains the subject matter and be able to handle that in the classroom. This is pretty much impossible in a sink school where half your students are busy carving names into the wall/starting fights over respec/dealing drugs/ripping off the local newsagents/openly hostile to any and all authority figures etc...

hey now, in high school i dealt drugs and had a 4.22 gpa

Haha, I was being sarcastic, though I'm sure there are a lot of teachers with the attitude of "BECAUSE I SAID SO."

I do agree that students should be learning critical thinking skills early, and I feel privileged in my own education as well. I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and there was a good emphasis on logical, and critical thinking. Also, there was a very strong emphasis on writing ability.

When I moved to the US for university, I was shocked that so many of my peers were entirely incapable of writing a coherent paper. Many of them never even had to write a formal essay in high school at all, where as I had to write one for nearly every class going all the way back to middle school (7th and 8th year).

Did they grade on the curve at your school?
You had the 4.22 because everyone else was stoned for your "first one is free" policy.

English cornershop that sell Newspapers, penny sweets, cheap plasticky kids toys like waterpistols, cap guns, burst when you kick them footballs and crudely molded army men. Either run by 2nd generation Pakistani or by someones Grandmother that remembers when the council estate next door was a field and how 40 years ago it was a village and people bought day to day things like milk/eggs/bread from her and the butcher down the street. Also usually used to be the village post office as well.

They are dying out across the country as community's have massively increased in size, due to supermarkets and closure of local post office branches.

OK, strictly speaking they are just shops that sell Newspapers, but none of them JUST sell Newspapers.

I lol'ed at the truth of that statement. Now if they remove kugutsumen from the profanity filter it might restore some faith in them, but I doubt that would happen.

US high school students are really some of the worst in the world. US college grads are some of the best, and US post-grads are the best in the world. US Colleges are really good at quickly weeding out those that suck, and improving those with talent. I remember hearing once that us 1st year (freshman) college students tend to perform below international 1st year university standards, US 2nd year (sophmore) students are on par with their 2nd year international peers, and by the 3rd year, exceed peer groups academically.

High schools (pre-uni education) in the US are a waste of time. The US's universities are what keeps the US economy afloat, and at least some intelligence in the nation.

50% of Americans who enter university are likely to flunk out or drop college by the end of their first year. Schools do not even attempt to prepare us for university, and the level of education is laughable. I was a TA for the English department at my high school, and the 11th grade reading assignments were on things that were at an 8th grade level.

    I figured it was unlikely.
The posts themselves were very official looking, I guess someone was just trying to setup the character to abuse later.
Dumb though, it would be trivial to verify even without being a mod - like everyone has Fallout's email and twitter.

    That's pretty sad, actually.
Most of my friends in University didn't have any problem with Math or their knowledge in the various sciences, but their writing ability was distinctly lacking.
I wonder what the deal is.
