That's not a surprise. Before the Southern Democrats jumped ship to the Republican, you could probably find examples of them opposing pretty much any move that involved treating black or brown people like human beings. It's kinda scary to hear the similarities in rhetoric that come out of some elements of the GOP today which wouldn't be out of place in the old reconstruction era south. Replace 'negro' with 'muslim' and you could pretty much copy and paste some of the speeches.

In tough times you have to make tough cuts - and that means to everything. Military, Medicare, Medicaid, everything. Completely defunding or underfunding a few small projects won't get you anywhere - especially not ones that are there because they prevent costs from occurring.
