Born and raised in Florida, the media hype over this storm is ridiculous. A frankenstorm? Perfect storm? What are we going to call Andrew and Katrina now?
[Arrador] possesses a considerable understanding of ship configurations, strengths and weakness. He gives clear and purposeful instructions, is good at taking advantage of the fleet-composition he's dealt, and never loses sight of the main goal: fun. This, paired with an excellent tolerance for strong drink gives him an almost Churchillian capability to win, despite being completely pissed on booze most of the fleet operation.
I have a good friend in CT, and I do have to laugh at how poorly the Electric utilities are maintained. Everytime a storm like this rolls through, he loses power for nearly 2 weeks. I wouldn't call the people up north pussies per-say (fuck all snow and winter, I've heard enough stories from my grandpa who was a dairy farmer in upstate NY), but the media needs to stop cashing in on the hype created by hurricanes from 2005.
And yea, before/after tropical/cat 1 storms are the best surfing days.

No, we just have to repair a good portion of 1300 miles of coastline, weather the third most costly storm in US history, and deal with more storms of this type then any other state. But hey, NY has been pumping shit into the Hudson for how many years now?
Oh, in your defense, we did declare a state of emergency in 1989 when the state capitol had a couple of inches of snow. - http://www.nytimes.com/1989/12/25/us...a-freezes.html

Confirming snow is NBD but god damn throw some wind at us and we curl up and go back to the stone age! Also, it should be pointed out that most people not in a city run off well water, which by the great idea of modern technology should not have a manual pump installed as a backup. Breaking out the camping filter and going down to the near by swamp is my new morning chore.
All you bold brave men up in here who are all tooting about being from Florida, this is the largest storm to ever make landfall in history on the east coast, its broken every record there is, so yea while the Media Hype is shit as per usual, this fucker is mean, New York and New Jersey are underwater, and in Jersey theres a valid photo of a shark swiming by a guys porch.
http://www.weather.com/tv/tvshows/live-stream
They'll come back around to the security photos of the New York Subway filling with water, and by filling I mean like a fucking main hatch on a sub blew open and the water is surging in.
EDIT: New york is in the middle of a 13.7 foot storm surge, I'm pretty sure that 13.7 feet of storm surge would bury all of Florida

Its more wide than intense. Nor' Easters that came through a few years ago hit harder but only over half the state or maybe just CT+MA but this thing is hitting all of new england plus DC and virginia.
That shit would be like top 5 in hurricanes I've been through in my short life, but please, its just getting a lot of press because it's hitting the northeast where everyone thinks they are more important than the rest of the country.
As many people in the south will tell you, what matters about the Hurricane is how it makes landfall, not how big it is. Some of the bigger hurricanes have done little damage to Louisiana or Florida, and by contrast, Katrina was only an above average hurricane that caused one of the worst weather disasters in the past 20 or so years.
Also I'm almost certain that Katrina had storm surges of like 20+ feet.
Protip: When comparing hurricane sizes and 'scariness' Look at hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Ike for disparity in scale of "largeness" but near equal damage done.

Hey look, the shark picture made it on this list of 7 fake pictures floating around about Hurricane Sandy. This bitch isn't even a cat 1 anymore apparently.
http://mashable.com/2012/10/29/fake-...-sandy-photos/
I wonder how that will effect the ratings for the storm coverage.Given that Sandy is no longer officially a hurricane, The Weather Channel and weather.com will refer to the system as "Superstorm Sandy".

Honestly, this shit sucks no matter how you look at it.
All I'm going to say is that storm surge is everything with a hurricane. The rainwater can cause flooding but almost all the really devastating damage from every hurricane in the past has come from the large storm surges. Wind damage really only brings down lots of old tree's, and has to be extremely high winds to do any significant damage. The rainfall is usually the same you would experience with just a really long rainstorm.
I can already tell that my biggest problem from this hurricane is going to be the aftermath. There's probably going to be a lot of damage because the North rarely experiences this kind of storm, and they are going to make a gigantic deal about how terrible it all is. I can remember how pissed off I was living in Louisiana after katrina, hearing countless people from the North and other places talk shit about New Orleans. "Why was it built so close to the coast and under sea-level, don't you think they should have seen this coming", "Those people are so stupid for building a city where it could flood that easily", and then my favorite, "Why should we help people who chose to live in a flood zone."
Most of those people had probably never seen a hurricane in their life, had no idea that New Orleans had been through plenty of hurricanes without the levee's breaking, and then Katrina basically hit with the most severe part of the storm surge the exact spot that would cause the levees to break (for those of you that don't know, it had to basically swing around the Mississippi Delta and flood into Lake Ponchetrain, which basically means the bitch went sideways, something that always had a pretty low chance of happening). And now I'm already reading about all the flooding happening in New York City and accross the Eastern seaboard. I've been to New York City, and I don't know why they are so freaked out by flooding, the thing is basically at sea level with the whole fucking Atlantic Ocean, I'm not sure exactly what they expect.
This right here is on the front page of reddit right now:

OH NOESSSS A TREE FELL DOWN.
Bitch that shit happens every hurricane. Even the tropical storms (which is what this shit is). Gustav hit Louisiana in 2009, and it took them nearly a week just to clear all the downed tree's from the streets of Baton Rouge so people could drive again. I spent every one of my off days of school with 3 of my buddies and 4 chain saws clearing out tree's from all of our neighbors yards. And remember, Baton Rouge is around 90 miles inland.
Edit: 4 posts in 30 minutes, yes I get it i'm mad.
Hey stupid, you missed my edit where I added in "on the east coast", this storm meets all the criteria of being the largest ever to make landfall on the east coast, feel free to keep posting like a retard nigger though, it make you almost look cute, in that bitter retard faggot kind of way.
No storm on the eastern seaboard has ever had any of the levels that this storm has, next time you decide to be a prissy whiney little bitch about something I've said 30 minutes after I said it and edited it, you should probably make sure your dumb ass is in the right.
Also use "Protip" more you dumb nigger.
I'll be a bit surprised if this storm doesn't rank fairly high among storms in terms of $ damage inflicted (Depending upon calculations), simply because of population density and area effected. But the terms, media hype, and watching facebook status scroll by? Please, as far as NYC goes, only people on the first floor of any building (and are there buildings in NYC with only 1 floor?) will be affected. This is no frankenstorm, this is no perfect storm, its a god damn pain in the ass that the North East states are not prepared, and given history, have very little incentive to prepare for. I'll wager 90% of the expenses/damages will be social and not personal. Example: Public infrastructure (subways), that bill will be footed by the public just like Florida and the rest of the gulf states have footed the increase in Home Owners insurance premiums. Except up north, most people won't experience the personal loss of their house being leveled to a concrete slab.

In western PA and we'll get some heavy rain and a few gusty winds.
I was just driving home from work and aside from a little wind shake I don't understand why everyone is making such a huge deal about this. I've felt way less safe on the road during one our 1-3ft in a day blizzards but those happen all the time so can't be milked for ratings.
Every rifter counts friend
I'll substitute "Protip" for "Yo Faggot": Andrew had a storm surge of 17ft (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/outreach/history/) and sustained winds of 142mph. You are still 2 for 4 mate.

Yo Faggot Andrew didn't hit the eastern seaboard, it went into the Gulf of fucking Mexico you dumb shit.
EDIT: Feel free to keep trying though Arrador you dumb nigger, its not like I'm making this shit up, I'm actually repeating what the weather channel is stating directly, it is, without question, the largest hurricane to ever make land fall on the eastern seaboard.
Please continue to use your pea sized brain to refute the people who's job it is to record and measure the weather, I shall continue to enjoy watching you be wrong and fucking retarded.

Somebody call Guinness, all the record keepers and statisticians are obviously mistaken and Arrador of Kungutsumen fame is obviously right....or not you dumb fuck.
God damn, do you really not understand geography, history and pictures? Hurricane Andrew was a fucking Atlantic storm and hit the eastern coast of Florida. Or, due to your gross faggotry, the "Southeastern Coast" of Florida doesn't count as the eastern seaboard because of a little prefix worded as 'south'.

Please keep arguing with all the scientists on the weather channel who don't consider Andrew an 'Atlantic' storm at all, its cute. The low pressure mark that this storm broke has been in place since 1938. The high watermark since 1960, and the windmark obliterated everything ever seen on the east coast.
Please Arrador, keep trying to prove your right as opposed to the people who do this for a job.
Also what do you mean an 'Atlantic storm', they're ALL fucking atlantic storms, the come off the fucking west coast of Africa.
It takes a lot of stupidity to argue with the record keepers but you can feel free to keep trying.
If you prefer wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...highest_points

Up next, Arrador takes on the scientists concerning when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, attempting to prove Sarah Palin right
It takes an equal amount of faggotry to argue with the National Hurricane Center, from the National Weather Service, a government run operation. But sure, keep white-knighting your privately owned service that doesn't mind hyping shit up for a few more viewers and ratings. http://press.weather.com/company-info/
oh BTW fucktard. They don't all originate from the atlantic. We do brew them in our very own gulf you fucking idiot.

Can we just fucking agree that Ground Zero is flooding right now?

Hi, the National Hurrican Center and the National Weather Service are who I'm getting all this fabulous information from stupid, all these little factual numbers I'm using are coming directly from them, not my "privately owned service". Who the fuck do you think keeps all the records that this storm is breaking exactly, The Weather Channel?
Also you're retarded, Every single Hurricane that hits our side of the country starts as a low pressure front off the western coast of Africa, jesus christ are you fucking dumb.
http://www.xkcd.com/1126/
That is all.
Christ you're more of a nit-picking faggot grandpa then I imagined. "Every hurricane that hits our side of the country...." So yea, lets talk about hurricanes that originated in the atlantic off the coast of africa, hit the eastern seaboard and conveniently ignore Andrew... Oh and for the sake of a lousy record with statistically meaningful numbers but the standard deviation is so large its useless, lets ignore all hurricanes in the gulf, even if 75% came from the antlantic.
Go blow yourself.

All you had to say was "you're right grath"
EDIT: To help you, Hurricanes wont form unless the temperature of the water is 80 degrees to a depth of 150 feet, they feed off of this, that is why classically hurricanes that travel up the east coast into the cold waters of the North Atlantic are considered in a different light than those that travel into the warm shallow waters of the Gulf, and why they traditionally are stronger down there, thus they are grouped differently than the ones that meander up here in the north.

grath has a sandy vagina. see what i did there?
You're all fucking pussies. In Australia when we have a storm - the Spiders come out - and fuck that shit. Not to mention th fucking drop bears.
Yea i saw that thing where all the trees were filled with spiders. I love the idea of Australia, but fuck that bullshit. great big fucking sharks, crocs, and a disgusting amount of spiders.
Also I just wanted to drop in and say:
"HOLY FUCK ARRADOR!!! If this is what getting active again and hanging out with Ent does to you - do yourself a favour and unsub all over again!"
