The EVE-O Participation Survey

I'm currently working on a research project which requires some data collection. I've created a survey that's totally voluntary and anonymous. It's ten questions long and should take no more than two minutes to complete. I'd also like to send it out to some of the major alliances and see if I can get a fairly massive pool of data going, but for now, I think Kugu would make a good test pool.

That's because it's not intended for people who don't play EVE. I'm trying to draw from a pool of current players.

E: Question 9 also had a 'Masturbate' option at one point, but I realized that there's only so much of that you can do per day.

I'm testing identical questions in different survey pools (both in-game and outside) to see how far EVE players, especially frequent or un/underemployed EVE players, deviate from norms in substance use and fiscal independence.

Interesting preliminary finding: Although 14% of respondents report that they are looking for work, a mere 2.7% reported that if they didn't play EVE they would be trying harder to find work. And it's not even clear if these 2.7% belong to the 14% (since I phrased it "more work").

Err, imo it's not a very huge amount of data you can gather from that question sheet...
I mean, you don't even have sex, age or income.
What about nationality or relationship status ?

Imo those are some of the basics that belong in all/most surveys, they will tell you a lot about your data pool...
If you don't have them, you can only really assume a lot of scenarios for the targeted group ?

I'm going to have a second survey soon since this site is dumb and only lets me put 10 questions in a survey.

Relationship status doesn't really tell me anything I need to know, I'm not interested in gender discrepancies, and I'm mostly concerned with the unemployed.

Age is going to be important though, as will be nationality (the next survey will have a question about timezone association).

E: Of course I could ask all this stuff on principle or just in case I need to confirm that half of all EVE nerds are also permavirgins but I want maxdudes for this survey and asking irrelevant bullshit won't help.

I think most of the statistics were disappointing - I did expect a lot more drinkers, smokers, unemployed and non-students in this survey.

However, I was pleased to discover that, in the absence of MMOs, over half of those polled would instead be playing other games rather than doing anything else, and of those currently looking for work very few would divert the free time to looking harder. So, OP SUCCESS.

I think it's likely that the problem is that the kugu demographics are significantly older than eve online demographics (and much older than other MMO demographics) and thus more likely to be jobbed.

I am not at all surprised at the picture of the kugu poster the largest categories give: works a full time job, gets home and spends basically all his or her time before going to sleep playing eve, but takes a couple evenings off eve a week to go to a bar while having no hobbies and giving zero fucks about self improvement.

Right; my line of thought was that Kugu posters are fairly dedicated EVE players, and that with this dedication the effects of playing an MMO are more pronounced than with the general EVE population.

However, I failed to consider that Kugu posters are also generally better educated and older than the average EVE player, which gives better access to employment.
