So, what is actually going on in Venal? I gather the Goons and NC are endeavouring to retake moons from Raiden and NCdot, but what's the strategic picture, and who's winning?
CFC are attempting to take all NC. and I think Raiden tech moons in venal. Last weekend we took three out of five reinforced and another two yesterday. Lots of moons where reinforced last night so we expect big fights this weekend.
EDIT:
- Goons are moping up Tenal/Venal and taking all tech that's not PL.
- NCDot are still in Tribute.
- Raiden are in low sec, I believe?
- Team Tech contests whenever the timer is EU. Usually can't compete much against 300-400 goons.
- INIT were living out of N5Y but rumour has it they're in the process of moving out although they still have a presence around Venal.

Going after tribute sov would be pretty brazen considering the Jita burning in two weeks. Gobbling every single tech moon they can on the other hand is far more plausible. Tribute has like 30-40 I think.

I honestly believe that tech moons bring with them the Punic Curse. Your guys think they've won the game, log in only to fly ridiculously expensive ships with high SP characters, and decide the game sucks when no one will engage them.

We do it so we can reimburse everyone stuffs. Rather than proliferate supercaps that other alliances have done. It just so happens we now have enough tech to do both. It makes our game more enjoyable for the line member rather than the elite who suck enough cock to get a free titan

I think it's twofold: money and power.
It is true that many, many Eve organizations get rich and then promptly die, but that doesn't mean it's an inescapable causation. For a lot of groups it's basically a free ticket to throw away fleets at even the slightest hint of a decent fight.
In terms of power, the number of tech moons under your belt is far more significant than the amount of systems you own. So if you're playing for that "flag in the map" type of game, then tech moon count is the way to go.
In reference to the exact comment you were quoting, I'd say that any money you can sock away now while tech is hot is a smart move. By the sounds of it, CCP is planning to kill bootleneck moon minerals for good, so having a fat warchest now is the smart play for the long term.

While this is true, it's only true as long as you have fights. Once you've conquered or blued everything twenty jumps in any direction, your good FCs leave because they're bored as balls and tired of spending an hour every day just warping between gates. Then, when a fight actually comes, you've got pussyshit FCs who still bring artybaddons and get dunked on by untested fleet comps.
