[SPOILER='Another Gaga Response']
Hi,
I guess I should be happy that my daughter still has not reached her scream-metal-phase. What my concerns are, is that to be a good parent today means very different things than being a parent when I grew up. While I consider myself to be conservative, I realize the need to change with society. On the other hand, I want to shield her from the things I find unfamiliar and inappropriate.
Yes, if I continue my approach to limit her Gaga-fever at home, she will still be able to listen to it at her friends' homes. Her school has a computer lab, which means that she will have access to the musical pornography of 'born this way' and many other things. I want her to stay with us. Of course she needs to be prepared for the world 'out there' and so on, but I feel that she is still too young to be exposed to a menace such as that artist.
P.S. Lol I have never listened to Lady GaGa though I've heard her name all over the place. I looked up a couple of her/his lyrics yesterday after reading your post and found them to be at best negative fluff and at worst … destructive. However. I looked up the lyrics to the song you mentioned “Born this way” AFTER writing my response to you. And then I pulled up the video on youtube.
Now. Haha. Um. I have to tell you that this is my second draft of my response to that … mmm, video. You might be able to imagine what my first response included :-D I'm sure something similar to your jaw-dropping first impression lol. Something along the lines of OH MY! Oh-ho-ho nooew. Lol Mmm-mm nopers. At 13? What 13 year old would have the capacity to discern and make sense of that mess? They don't have enough life experience to even know what they are looking at much less frame it in proper context. This kind of music isn't healthy for grow-ups much less children. It is just UNbelievable that this is main stream American music.But guess who wants control of your children? And truly, he seems to be gearing up.The message and content is wholly demonic - from the first sentence she speaks. The images elicit in my own spirit (43 years on this earth – 30 longer than your daughter) a sickening understanding that I am looking at demons at play and working through a lost soul. My more mature spirit rails against this influence … but I fear if I were 13 in this day and age my spirit's response might simply be “What? Gaw! You're so narrow minded!” What that video attempts to do is redefine God and re-write creation to justify preversities. You hear the serpent's seducing argument. “Ye shall not SURELY die.”
Let me just say … that is just one more reason I am happy I pulled my son from public school in the 5th grade and why my daughter will not set foot in one. The influences there are … as you said, not the same as when we were growing up. Consider if this were the atmosphere at your job. How long would you stay? How long could you bear staying? THIS is what our kids are up against? It is even worse than when I pulled my son out in 05. My heart breaks for Lady GaGa. Truly. She'll be in my prayers because she needs to be. But those lyrics, that video … mmm, I can ONLY see them as demonic. Born this way? A lie straight from hell. This didn't just happen to her, and she surely wasn't born that way, it came about by design through poor influence which resulted in poor choices. And those choices could cost her dearly. It could cost her eternity. Let me say again … THANK YOU Lord for the blessing of your boundaries.
