Liveblogging Fanfest 2012

Just as I did last year, I'll be liveblogging selected panels and events at Fanfest over on EN24. As always, my coverage will focus on panels relevant to nullsec (and for the most part is limited to 'shit I care about as an alliance leader, plus what the fuck is gonna happen with DUST and how worried should I be').

While much is covered on EVE TV, they don't tend to broadcast the roundtables as much - and that's where the action is for us nullsec dudes. So my hope is to be able to take you where EVE TV can't, and provide the nullsec community with the issue-specific coverage it desires.

I had actually looked forward to at least some of the bullet points on the http://fanfest.eveonline.com/en/events/evetvschedule but I just checked in right now and they still have the Ersatz StevieG so maybe I should just kill myself irl.

I intended to liveblog the Fleet Warfare panel but it was standing room only and I couldn't type. tl;dr - The Fleet window is being revamped, they are considering ways to deal with the fact that we can't broadcast between fleets, titan-tracking is a hot-button issue, and people want command ships to be required to be on-grid to provide bonuses. I got a round of applause for suggesting that the command ship change would be a great idea, as it would force rorquals to siege in belts. :trollface:

The Links problem is obvious and can be dealt with more elegantly than that. The problem is that Links can be running safely inside a POS shield, and Links in general give too large a bonus. Making them "on-grid" only will discourage the small-gang/solo players utilizing a link ship, and encourage gate-camp blobs to just warp their link-alt onto the gate. This is not a good fix. Just adjust the bonus percentage so you don't get the absurd 30% better performance out of the ship, and of course no-longer allow them to project bonuses while inside a POS shield.

Keynote stuff:

Redesigning POS's to make them scale able - 1-2 years

Incursion like group pve mining, rewards moon minerals. Got a lot of applause, seemed like it might be an Inferno or winter expansion thing

3rd party are getting expanded access to the API, able to read and write back to it. Adding in a new developer license, no weird restrictions and will be free.

If they go with the modular design people has been asking for, that means a shitload of assests to produce. Depending on the route they take, that may mean a whole design for each possible combination of modules.
