The moderation of racist, sexist and homophobic words will no longer be specifically pursued. We will now return to infracting people for "stupid shit" which was the rule previously in effect.

Please put down the pitchforks and excrement, the dirty protest is now over.

For the sake of transparency I will now reprint the message I sent to Endie regarding the situation.

Dear Endie.


I am sorry that you are so unhappy about this situation. There is a moderator discussion with vinata about what will happen next and I believe he has finally begun to understand that the situation is not as simple as he may have imagined it. If you are a fan of "Yes, minister", you might have called it a "courageous" undertaking. I am currently in the invidious position of being one of two admins
with very differing ideas of how the site should run, and thus we are both unable to fully drive one vision or the other.


Vinata wishes for a sober forum of discussion and factual debate, while I prefer the idea of a local bar or comfortable club. one where you might rest after a tiring day, ready to relax with a snifter of sherry and a newspaper.


This perhaps defines how we differently solve problems. Vinata might set up a list of clear rules which are enforced, whereas I prefer to shape and cajole, saving forcible ejection for the loudest, most obnoxious drunks.


And so it is, that, perhaps entirely by accident, two of the best contributors to our site, Yourself and Grath, find yourselves unhappy with this new imposition and most likely to suffer from it. I don't like this and I would prefer both of you to stay. None of us are classic monsters and it is unlikely that we support or hold extreme views, we just prefer to talk in the comfortable manner of friends, without artificial restraint.


I feel that this situation will be resolved soon.

We know they can't do anything about it, but they could have stood with us. Saying that "i'm unable to voice my real opinion because I'll get demodded like Grim" is stupid, why would you even stay a mod in that environment? That exact thing is the heart of the issue, why is one opinion more valid than another? Why are people being punished for not having that opinion?

Grim should still be a mod, he was fairly decent at his job and the only reason he doesn't have it anymore is because he wouldn't tow the company line.

Grim held an opinion that was different from Vinata, and was beheaded for it.


The friendship that was harmed the most by this was probably mine and DHD's, but thats no fault of anybody but Durr, something he refuses to accept. Everybody but him sees him as climbing in the Alamo and riding it out, not reacting rationally. When first confronted with the rule in print he basically took a stance that we were wrong and should just deal with it. Later he came to the thread in question and shit posted in support of it. Last he comes directly at me because I was talking about shooting his internet space ships and when i lean back he breaks down in a sperging torrent denying any involvement at all and playing the innocent bystander.

I like DHD still, he's literally asked me to not associate with him anymore so thats somewhat depressing, but this was easily avoidable on his end. People he called 'friend' were given a rule and a byline that said 'fuck you im not telling you why you get this rule', something thats pretty hostile, they reacted in hostility themselves. Instead of standing by those people, or even letting them know (he's now claiming to have been against the rule) that he was infact on their side, he went on the offensive, climbed up in his tower, and refuses to budge from his position.

When he's done I'll still bullshit with him, but this is the kind of stupidity that comes from trying to enforce your beliefe structure on other peoples.

Grim has not been demodded as far as I am aware. I was unhappy with him because he posted:

Yeah I was disappointed by DHD on this: it's clearly not a deeply-held principle thing because during the cultural revolution honeypot thread in GSF he was off the scale in outrage in GFGBS at this abrogation of his right to free speech. I find it hard to believe that it is all about being co-opted or loving being a mod so much so I really don't get it.
