Delayed missile DPS still kills shit. Our alliance has other doctrines but the central doctrine is tengus, with the main purpose of having a lot of dudes in tengus. Chances are, we usually blow up our primaries from 100km. We've done it in yesterday's fight, we do it all the time in other fights.

Why don't you just use 100km drakes which do the exact same thing for a fraction of the cost? You realize you're basically using a tengu as a 300dps drake.

Just from conservative numbers and subsystem skills to 3 (one of which takes 2-3 hours to recover if lost), 100mn Tengus do about 1.5x the DPS with 30% better missile velocity, which matters when your damage is delayed so hard.

Also, Richter called them '1 bil coffins' but realistically you can fit a decent one for about 600mil.

100MN Tengus are good for what -A- designed their fleet to do, which is to be a long range damage dealer while someone else is meatshield/heavy grinder. They can break targets because there is always someone else also doing DPS close up. They know they are safe since the fleet they are shooting at is unable to warp on top of them and kill Makalu.

I mean there's some decent theorycrafters in -A-, and they know that their tengu fleet is not going to be able to take any fleet 1v1 in a fleet fight, unless they are RA or IRC. Makalu probably was just itching for a fight regardless yesterday and got baited into 1v1 of equal sizes -- we've all done that before -- I recall once incident where I warped LR HACs to BoB Sniper Apocs @ 10km and proceeded to align out with them because we were bored of just sniping off straggle.

We've had couple of similar concepts whenever we've had the meatshield like NULLI/RA who can take a beating up close. It's good fun, very effective and provides excellent K/D. It rarely wins strategic objectives -- but when you're not fighting for anything you care about it's perfect.
