    Default Second Mix (Dubstep/DnB/Electrostep)

Hey so this is the second mix I decided to throw up since I was bored this morning. It's mainly dubstep with some Drum n Bass and a little Electrostep.

I had to upload to youtube since soundcloud is going to charge me to upload more music. Also, I haven't figured out why it skips sometimes as it's not doing it while I'm mixing. I apologize in advance.

    Duration: 55~ minutes
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojNBB...ature=youtu.be

    Tracklist:

Kill the Noise - Kill the Noise (Dillon Francis Remix)
Drop It - KillaGraham (Original Mix)
White Noise/Red Meat - Dada Life (Dim Mak Presents Bassjackers Remix)
Cracks - The Freestylers (Inphinity's Electrostep Remix)
Fly Away - High Rankin (Original Mix)
Cookies With a Smile - Dada Life (Plast!c Youth Remix)
Breathe - Skrillex (Michael White Remix)
Fire Hive - Knife Party (Original Mix)
    Clips - Bare (Original Mix)
Falling Down - Sub Focus feat. Kenzie May (Original Mix)
Python - Dodge & Fuski (Original Mix)
No More Tomorrow - Dark Elixir (Original Mix)

Giving it a listen while I get some evening Minecrafting on.

I'd prefer to be able to dl the mix so I can tweak the fuck out of it with foobar if I want to.

I figure the skipping is a clock issue with the software you're using (a mismatch between the software and Windows' audio stack). People tend to listen to mixes once they're output through a separate device to be sure a timing issue didn't fuck 'em up (mp3 player, phone, a different soundcard in the same pc, a different pc, car stereo, receiver, television — anything with its own DAC).

I'm at 20 in now. It's better-assembled than the first, for sure. Apart from the odd skip-intrusion it's really enjoyable.

What's your current PC like? Troubleshooting these sorta things is usually a pita, man.

The only surefire way to eradicate a problem like this is to make sure the OS properly recognizes your hardware, that your hardware is up to the tasks you're demanding of it, and that the software you're mixing with is setup to talk to the hardware correctly.

Sounds simple enough but drivers and software are obscure enough that it's often a royal pita.

    1) make sure your drivers, OS and software are up-to-date
    2) try some different mixing software
    3) try a new sound card (which can be pretty cheap)

Personally, I would search audio forums (e.g. HydrogenAudio) for known working setups (of both hardware and software). You might just start an inquiry thread at those places, because people there often actually know what the fuck they're talking about (as opposed to ArmChair Jambe).

What's usually happening with these sorts of weird skips (and this happens with video, too) is that the PC's base clock and what the software thinks the base clock is are two different things — they get off by a few fractions of a second here and there and that ends up producing some weird and often-unpredictable artifacts/skips/mismatches in the final output.

It's definitely more american dubstep than UK Underground, but it's not bad. There's a single skrillex remix on there, because well I don't give a fuck he throws down a few bangers on occasion. I don't like much dubstep at all, but this is collection of stuff I don't mind listening to for the most part.

I also just laid down a rough cut of an electro/progressive set night before last. It was my first time using actual turntables (I used 2x cdj-900s with a pioneer mixer) and overall I'm pretty happy with the result. It was mainly just practice for beatmatching, transitioning, lining up bars and drops, harmonic mixing, etc. I'm really stoked about the song selection, it's got some fuckin bangers on it.

I'm going to listen to it tonight (I haven't listened to the recording yet) and decide if I need to redo it or if it's decent enough to post here.

I liked it, in a wierd way.

It's different and sometimes the switch overs are almost to obvious, also a few places your beats dosen't line up so it seems abit awkward.

Yeah beatmatching with a mouse and no physical turntables is kind of hard. It's less like a set and more like 10 songs that I made into one hour long thing. The stuff I'm working on right now is with cdj900s and a mixer so I'm working on beatmatching and cue'ing in tracks properly now. If anything its good practice for song selection and flow.

Yeah I'm not much of a fan of dubstep, this was mainly stuff that I kind of enjoy. I haven't had time to redo the set as I've been going to all the weekly parties but I'm gonna try to knock it out tomorrow.
