IMO there's room for a little diversity (although not Sensor Boosters ofc), and it's often handy to have a couple of guys who can rep hull back up after an engagement. A whoregun is always a waste of a slot though.

I can fly HICs, dictors, shield and armor logis (just lacking armor tanking skills, remote armor repping is maxed out, logi V, but can't fly an oneiros), intercerptors and recons. I could not be arsed to train for a flying asteroid. Which of these is most exciting to pilot in large fleet battle?

Ohboy this isn't an easy question, and the lazy answer is that "it depends". Anyways here's my 5 cents as on what it depends:
Dics: incredibly useful in quite a few situations, but be prepared to spend a lot of time either cloaked or dead. They can be plenty exciting in those small timeframes where you actually get to drop your bubble, but your participation in the battle will be...limited in time.
HICS: shield hics and armor hics tend to be a way different experience because of the way the fleets they're a part of work. Basically if the enemy is up close, they can be fun to fly if you like to tank like a boss (or die horribly trying), but if both parties spend most of the time 70-80k off each other (which happens quite often in shield vs shield slugfests) you will either sit in the middle of your fleet with your thumb up your arse or get sent on a suicide mission to bubble the enemy fleet.
Logis: Niche ship, either you like the niche (repping stuff) or you don't, not much else to say here. Oh and people will shower you with love if you fly these - so if you're into spaceship bromance this might just be the ship class for you.
Recons: lachs and huginns are awesome in shield fleets because if you do it right, you will be using faction webs/points and skirmish boosts to get retarded range and be able to either sit out of enemy lock range or at the very edge of it while providing meaningful e-war. Your survival chances should be pretty damn solid because you can pretty much warp out at will, and you WILL be able to do shit all the time while you're alive. You really need recon 5 for this tho, because you need all the range you can get.
Oh and recons in armor fleets tend to die horribly - they usually get primaried first, and at point blank range your low ehp and some enemy webs will lead you to an early grave. Moral of the story: fly loki/proteus for those roles in armor fleets, or t2 fit them and get used to dying.
Ceptor: the main use for ceptors is sending a bunch of them to die horribly so your fleet has wrecks to warp to. Not the most exciting experience imo.

Considering the supercap advantage of PL/NCDot/XiX I'd say SOLAR&Co did pretty fucking well. I thought this was going to be a boring supercap stomp, possibly followed by the usual wulfpax, but at this rate this is going to be an awesome war.

I'm sure that somebody will do a proper BR, but personally, I'd like to kick Silent Dodger in the nuts, he has a tendency to engage about an hour before anybody else is even ready, so that right about the time we're getting formed up, he's getting face fucked by 300 or so guys.
Regarding the supers, this contract literally has PL horny as a 17 year old on Prom Night.
Fighting RUS gives us a unique chance at something: Fighting an opponent who literally has no fear. I shit you not Solar and Gypsy will fucking fight half a starved Polar Bear for a Cheeseburger bare knuckle boxing style.
They do not wait for overwhelming numbers, they do not stand down and dock up, and they even can add a backbone to a AAA fleet like nothing you've ever seen.
You have no idea the level of respect we have for Solar fleet members right now, as every time we fight them, we go up against 1 Alphafleet, 1 Tengu/Drake fleet, 1 Armor Hac fleet, and a 30-40 man bomber wing. That is their fleet doctrine.
Our first fight cost us the entire RA/XIX fleets, and most of the PL fleet (nearly 20 billion in ships just from PL across the day) to achieve the days objective, today's objectives were achieved, but it cost us the entire RA fleet, and 4 carriers, and a pinned down Hel that wouldn't load system (and I think of the 3 systems we're trying for we were reset to 0 on one, so not even a perfect walk).
In my opinion, there is no better group in EVE right now than the combined force of SOLAR and Gypsy Band, and yes I'm including the 1200 man CFC Blob, whom I think these guys would literally murder right now (the CFC would have trouble with the VERY well run bombers that they use, 40 at a shot, these are the best bombers I've seen).
So Garth what you are saying is Solor would curb stomp you if you did not have the help of XiX/RA yet you trash talk them and sort of shrug off the fact you lost both their fleets like meat shields...

First, its Grath, there's only 5 letters, its not that fucking hard.
Second, XIX/RA are usually dead by the time we even get to engage the hostiles, so no, thats not what I'm saying. Also "you lost both thier fleets like meat shields" is misleading, it makes it sound like I was their FC, when we had nothing to do with their fleets, they engage 40-60 minutes before their allies are in place while out numbered by 100+ ships in better fleet comps.
I think we'd like it better if they WERE acting like meat shields, at least then it would pull some of the fire off of us, but whats been happening thus far, is that somebody pulls the trigger before we get there, engages, gets sacked, dies, and is gone right about the time we even get to enter the theater.
Basically no thats not what I'm saying at all, but thanks for being a bitter little piece of shit about it.
EDIT: To be clear, today XIX waited until we were in system, it was RA that jumped the gun, but 2 days ago it was both of them, so we'll see how things pan out, xDeathx is a good dude, and generally isn't hard to work with or around at all, I'm not sure if its just working out the kinks, but if they keep engaging 400 man fleets before we're on the ground with them, its only ever going to end one way.
With entertaining fights instead of a one-sided stomping.
Worst part is all the fighting is early in the day for Americans. =(

Epic frig roam tonight
I managed to rally 4 dudes for a incursion into Cobalt edge 2 drams 2 ares and a sabre head out to harass IRC. We bomb anoms hoping to get lucky but alas we didn't so we head towards 87-1pm to bomb the ice belt in case they were gathering ice for there Kool-aid. While waiting for everyone to show up a Scythe jumped in and was promptly tackled thankfully we were flying ships and not asteroids so his weapons had no effect on us. http://northern-coalition.co.uk/?a=k...&kll_id=110776.
Sadly 87-was empty so we moved forward to DN58 to continue our bombing of anoms jump in thanny on scan and only 2 hordes in range fleet split between the 2 hoping to get lucky sadly he was aligned out and was gone before we landed so we bookmarked the horde and decided to try again. We loop back around to 87- and jumped back in a few min later nothing on scan.
I go well shit then comms erupted thanny on scan. WARP WARP WARP I scream knowing we had him we land and get point we noticed he logged thinking we have it in the bag we start trying to rally the troops. He vanishes leaving us going wtf he must have logged in warp but we had put aggression on him so we leave our sabre logged and watch listed him hoping he was dumb enough to log back in (In true IRC fashion).
We leave system and start to peek around some more when he logs back in we scream at our dictor but his pc seems to be taking a shit and not logging in thankfully SirGreen managed to make it in and get tackle we send the calls out and ring the batphones while we burn a cyno up to CE. The dude logged back off after about 15-20 min of shotting this carrier and not denting its tank we get a pl dude in fleet and our cyno makes it in and our friendly IRC pilot logged in and started smartbombing intime to see the Nyxs jump in and rape his face http://northern-coalition.co.uk/?a=k...&kll_id=110789

Can someone more experienced than I comment on the usefulness and consequences of fielding and fighting against an enemy bringing four types of fleets to a battle? I'm referring to Solar and Gypsy. Would really love to see some tactical angles here.
