That's funny because every single one of my Christian conservative relatives would disagree with you, and from a Biblical perspective, it's part of its command. Just look at how long sodomy laws were on the books, and how absolutely mind-staggeringly long it's taken most of popular society to recognize people of all sexual orientation. All the result of an oppressive, conservative movement to force people to be Christian.
I think we are equating 'pushed and pressured' with forced
I've noticed that there's a pretty big disconnect between the general consensus of kugu and what's actually happening. It seems enough people have said it in this thread that people are taking it as fact.
Yeah, thats just how the world works. Politicians who are religious conservatives push for laws that fit the beliefs of them and their constituents, while more liberal politicians do the same for their beliefs. If that means conservatives are forcing you to be christian than you also have to admit that liberals are forcing you to be tolerant of others while giving all your money to lazy bums who can't hold down a job.
The day the government stops telling you how to live your life is the day the world ends (hint: its less than a year away)

Its all a matter of opinion and which side you percieve to be "more wrong". I'm not religious at all, but I don't get my panties in a bunch over the pledge of allegiance like some people do. Its the goal of any government to control how people live their lives, and in our 2 party system both sides simply have a different end state in mind.

Exit Bachmann, enter Santorum.
Rick Santorum had a virtual tie with Mitt in Iowa, now the republican nomination process moves forward onto New Hampshire. The primary for New Hampshire is slated for the 1/10/11. Mitt Romney has it on virtual lockdown. Of note in New Hampshire is Jon Huntsman who has basically staked his campaign their going for the more moderate republicans, I believe he has mentioned that a 3rd place finish would convince him to continue with his campaign.
Things to watch for:
*Will Santorum just be the latest Anti-Mitt bubble candidate or be more than just a fad(I'm not sure on this one. It seems the anti-Mitt seems desperate to nominate anyone but him. But there is so much time left I think it's way to early to tell)?
*Will Rick Perry be able to rally in South Carolina and win back the social conservatives (I don't think he will be able to recover. However he still has a large fiscal backing from many big dollar supports and for that reason he could inadvertently be a great ally to the anti-mitt candidate).
*With Bachmann out where will her votes go? (My money is dispersed almost evenly among the candidates except for Mitt and Huntsman.)
Problem with Santorum is that he won't run successfully against Obama - he alienates more progressive conservatives (i.e., the Log Cabin crew) and moderates who are otherwise undecided. And it seems most of the GOP knows this, but Iowa is a conservative bubble that makes Birmingham look like Oxford. Of course he got nice results in the Caucus; he basically lived in Iowa for a month. He put all his eggs in one basket and he's hoping people are idiotic enough to care.
Perry's campaign has been dead for awhile now, and the Iowa Caucus results are unsurprising.
Bachmann didn't have a shitload of support, her platform being 'Obama sucks' which describes everybody in the GOP but to a slightly more subtle degree. You're right that nobody who liked Bachmann will like Romney, solely because her favorite line during the debates was 'Romneycare' and a vote for Huntsman might as well be thrown away.
Santorum put on a sweater vest and lost all respect as far as I'm concerned.
Now he's altered his entire wardrobe because he thinks he did well in Iowa because of it. I'll be surprised if he gets more than 15% in NH.
Grand Admiral McCain has now said that Mitt is a great guy. I think there will still be a shuffle but in the end Mitt gets the bid.

I wish they would just give it to Huntsman, but god forbid someone with actual ability got elected.

Seeing as Romney whooped McCain in the '08 Iowa Caucus, McCain would be a sore loser to hand it off to anyone else.
Not that the Iowa Caucus meant anything in '08, or any election year before then, but anything that draws media attention away from human rights violations and government corruption is good journalism, right?
God I hate this man.
SourceSantorum also had a tense moment when a student asked him about health care and the Christian responsibility of caring for the poor.
The student said he didn’t “think God appreciates the fact that we have 50 to 100,000 uninsured Americans dying due to a lack of healthcare every year,” citing a 2009 study out of Harvard University.
“Dying?” Santorum answered before going back and forth about the validity of the study.
“The answer is not what can we do to prevent deaths because of a lack of health insurance. There’s?—?I reject that number completely, that people die in America because of lack of health insurance,” Santorum said to a crowd of 100.
“People die in America because people die in America. And people make poor decisions with respect to their health and their healthcare. And they don’t go to the emergency room or they don’t go to the doctor when they need to,” he said. “And it’s not the fault of the government for not providing some sort of universal benefit.

Looks like Perry is finally done.

Its a shame he is gone. We really needed him to take on those terrorist turks.
