    Default Smart Phones

A few years ago I bought an iPhone after trying several palm / windows phones with little success (They were good at the productivity stuff and shit as phones). The iPhone was a great buy, even for a non apple fan because it was a great phone first with good apps as a secondary.

Now I'm out of contract and my phone is needing to be replaced. I'm also thinking of leaving AT&T because they seem to be turning off towers over last few months. I hear it's because of the upgrades they;re doing but really, I shouldn't be zero or one bar(s) in downtown Atlanta.

I've been told the Droid is a good platform (as a phone) but I'm not familiar with specific makes and surely not all of the different models can be good. It's not like the iPhones with a choice in color or memory.

So... Any opinions on the new iPhone4's and other smart phones would be much appreciated. It's most important I have a phone first and then email / web connectivity. Ideas on what U.S. networks are also good would be welcome. I'm in no big hurry since I need to get my divorce settlement signed before committing to another two year contract but I'll probably move quickly to disconnect her when I have the signatures all finished.

    Thanks in advance!

Just got a blackberry torch 9860, missus has run a 9800 for 6 months no issue, before that she had a touch for a year no issues.

I like the blackberry OS and once set up it's fairly robust.

    Thanks guys.

I won't be able to do a BB phone. That and non smart phones are not reimbursed by my company. I'm pretty much stuck with Windows/iPhone/Droid and the latter two are most preferred.

Go for something HTC (not the Desire, it's terrible). I have a Legend personally, and I like it very much.

Only had one HTC phone ever, and wanted to drive over it with my car.

I started with the Kyocera Smartphone (b&w, Palm OS) and have tried everything that's come out since, and still go back to the iPhone. The appstore alone makes it worth it to me. Also, as a musician, there's nothing going on in WebOS/Android/WindowsMobile that can touch the music APIs for IOS. And yes, people do actually write music on their phones.

Well, it looks like I've been shanghaied into a 4S anyway. My iPhone died today in the middle of a call (not battery but simply dead and into restore mode). CIO told me to get a new iPhone on my company's dime and re-contract with AT&T on a discount plan.

It appears I'm going to be the 4S guinea pig for my corp. I sorta wanted to move to something different but I'm not turning down a couple hundred dollars worth of expensed phone and a discounted rate. I'm a cheapskate.

    Thanks for the opinions anyway!

    Sad panda at iphone

I have the samsung galaxy , and I've been blown away by it. It's light, thousand of apps, fast, responsive. Easily the best phone I've ever had. I've got a renewal on my contract coming up in the next 2 months, and I'm thinking of going to ask to keep this phone.

I've been a BlackBerry guy for a few years. They've been great but I'm getting fed up with their software issues and recent system outages. RIM's stock is decreasing dramatically (ps this is a major news story Canada since the Canadian Pension Fund owns a fuckton of RIM stocks and 75% of major tech mutual funds have stocks in RIM).

Once my phone finally gives/I have enough extra moneys, I'm getting a droid phone.

even though you've decided, let me just add that when i told you my blackberry was good, and was reliable... about 30 mins later the entire blackberry network broke down (maybe for England i'm not sure) but i just found it very funny that i just said they are good

LOL. I had a network outage today and I couldn't get through to my Blackberry using (and traveling this week) network guy, who was in a total rage over the outage.

Seriously he sounded like he was ready to get stabby on someone. Of course I trolled him about my planned new phone.

Anybody have experience with Windows Phone 7? The UI is so slick, and it has all of the apps that I use (except maybe the k.com one ). My only qualm is that I would need to tote around my iPod Touch to use my iTunes.

I have a few buddies who use windows phone 7, they seem to like it well enough and it seems to mesh with social networking type shit pretty well. I personally have owned a droid x for a little over a year now, and its the first phone I've owned that I have yet to have to replace for a defect of some kind. Verizon gives me amazing service(signal strength and customer service) although i am pissed about the no more unlimited data package when I have to renew next year(My free wireless tethering effectively disappears haha). I've heard good things about the droid bionic and the HTC thunderbolt, if your looking to root and modify your phone stay away from motorola droids, they locked down the bootloader on everything post original droid and it makes it a pain in the ass to actually mod the phone.

Since I've never owned a windows phone 7 phone, I can't do a real comparision for you but I can say that I <3 my droid and having flash player on my cellphone is awesome.

Android just doesn't feel "done" to me. Like they should put it back in the oven for a few more years. I've used it a lot, on the Galaxy tablet, on several phones, and it's just.... I dunno, it's like using Linux in 1997.

Well I got the last one in my local best buy. The 4S is a damned nice phone, if I must say so. Aside from the old phone crashing and burning, this new one is significantly faster and appears to get better reception. \0/

The best part about the transaction was the sales girl. She has some nice artwork done on her and I got the name of her artist so I can get a coverup done.
