Well, I'm confused enough with having to deal with the country Georgia and the state of Georgia. So is he USA Georgian or Georgian Georgian? And if I'm not making any sense, that's nothing new.
Either way, I'm afraid of something when that something carries an automated shotgun.

Its actually relatively easy to get a rifle or shotgun in the UK if you are a member of a shooting club.

didn't read entire thread but I waned to say, go shoot several guns, get one that fits your hand and you can shoot accurately. I live in Texas and they almost issue you a ccw permit at birth.
My wife spent more time looking for her ccw that I did, she has small hands and was needing something with good knockdown power but easy to conceal. comfort is the number one thing to look for. If you ever need to use the weapon you don't wanna be fumbling for it.

Not yet, I work with some gun nuts, so I will go to the range with them somtime soon and try what they have. Plus, I want a permit before I buy the gun, but since I live in Florida I just need to fill out some form and its automatically approved.

On that note, what are the gun laws like where you guys live, since they change on a state to state basis? I know that a permit in Florida is good in about 30 other states, but is it the same for you guys?

North Dakota's permit is only good in North Dakota, but I get a Utah permit and its good for like 26 other states. Also having it also works as a permit to purchase so you don't have to go through the standard background check (being as you have already gone through one). Should give us a range report when you get back!

Be warned though, a lot of the reciprocity is based on legal resident status (state, not federal).

For personal carry, nothing beats a small shotgun in your pocket. It also fires .45 colt and some versions fire .454 casull as well
