Honestly I don't think that Goons have actively recruited in that manner in a long time. What I think does happen is you have a person in a director posistion who is fed up with their current alliance and they know that goons have delt with that sort of thing in the past so the director contacts them.

Came for killing the Tower that was reinforced two days ago. Raiden/NCDOT/Evoke scraped like 180 guys into three fleets while Goons topped at 220 or so.
Was definitely a lot of fun, nice to get a fight at all although grid was totally fucked up. Also we lost the Isk-War.

The new northern blob came to 8R in Cloud Ring to take down a DC reinforced tech moon with a crappy timer. DC put together a 200 strong alpha fleet and managed to get to system without drama, (such as an empty jb which was a problem a few days ago).
Raiden, Evoke, Northern Coalition dot, et al bought a slightly smaller fleet but being the elite PvPers they are, no doubt expected to wipe the floor with us. DBRB before the fleet engagement told us he hoped we would save the moon and just go home without any drama. I felt that this was not a good sign when it became obvious we were going to have a fight, with a tired FC who really just wanted to get it over with.
He might have been tired but DBRB was on fire tonight. Good warpins, good logi support, good target calling, it all went the way it was supposed to and we held the field. I don't know the final numbers, but I do know we did lose quite a few ships. It was a good fight, a bit similar to the one in 8R a few days ago which went the other way. This is Eve at its best, large competent fleets slugging it out, toe to toe, no quarter asked for or given.
Maybe goonswarm are going to lose Deklein, but I can tell you all that morale is high, we are getting reinforcements from our friends and that under a cynojammer, I would back us to win most times - ( no surprises there, seeing as I'm from clusterfuck).
We're not the bloated carcass that was the old northern coalition, every cynojammed system will be contested - the era of the free lunch in the north is well and truly over.

eve-kill is awful like that, I think it has a hard cutoff value so if you choose the wrong killmail in long-running fights, it'll only get a partial hit. They really should fix that.
