Riding the Downward Spiral - A Faustian Bargain

"Oh Faustus, lay that damned book aside,

And gaze not on it lest it tempt thy soul”

Since I last blogged things have come along in leaps and bounds, we have a (mostly) working Mumble server that everyone is on, the forums are working and used (even if they are plagued by bots!) and like an eager warren of rutting rabbits our numbers have grown.

Playing in a small corp has proven to be much more different to the life of a nullsec fleet drone than I thought. Instead of being fed ops on a daily basis with established ship types, objectives and fcs I find myself trying to juggle the basic admin, plan roams around the whims of my terrifying and volatile wife, while trying to chart out a future direction for our gang of miscreants.

As a bomber/covert ops corp, the goal is to eventually reign delightful havoc with expertly deployed bombing waves. Like free-spirited hippies in reverse we would frolic through nullsec making war not peace. Currently, we are finding ourselves either losing slosh fleets to vastly superior and larger gangs, or sitting on a blops BS in bombers waiting for either the craven residents to uncloak/undock/leave the pos they are cowering in to attack our not-at-all-bait recon, or for us to pin down someone who is neither clever enough to warp/cloak when we hit local.

What we need -we decided - are allies. Something akin to an older experienced uncle who gives you words of wisdom and sweets while you ignore his wandering hands. Someone who after having his fiddle would pat us on the head and send us off into the big wide world.
With that in mind (and therapy), Chopin and I headed out into the murky waters of nullsec politics to pimp out the nubile body of our little corp for the chance to get in on a fight. Surprisingly it looks like there are plenty of dirty mac-wearing "punters" out there who are interested in having a bunch of idiots come bomb people they don't like.

This should be good news - very good news! But somewhere in all the discussions we came to realize that nothing would ever be that simple. In our naive eagerness we never considered that we would have to commit to a bloc. Not only that, we'd have to join a bloc that everyone was happy with!

One might say we are at a fork in the road - on one hand we retain our independence - we can fly where we like, for as long as we like and shoot whoever our whims dictate. The price of this is having to do everything ourselves - grow the corp, train up or recruit quality FC's, and reinvent the metaphorical wheel of bombing.
The alternative is to join up with an existing group - have round the clock stuff for people to join in with rather than just those evenings when I am available - people we can learn from and the opportunity to participate in big events. The downside of course is that dream of running free and wild dies, members leave if they don't like the politics and we risk of an endless sea of blues.

Dirt Nap Squad is now unaffiliated with any bloc and has no blues. Those guys are pretty good at blops but have little experience in bombing runs. Perhaps you can teach each other.
