Now Just What the Hell are We Up To?

Bradley: "What we need is the best tank man we've got, someone who can pull this outfit together."
Aide: "Patton? God help us."

After publicly airing the devious designs of my scheme to found a new corporation, alliance, and power bloc (in that order) in my last blog entry (http://www.kugutsumen.com/content.ph...Merry-Go-Round), I was honestly expecting a bevy of "Haha, good luck scrub" accompanied with a smattering of "Who cares?"

While there were indeed some of those, what I was most surprised with was the substantial amount of folks who sent me ingame emails or private messaging saying "Sign me up, when do we start?"

To those with interest or to others prematurely predicting failure, I'll clarify a few facts:

1. Tentatively I plan to start getting things off the ground in July.
2. I don't plan on leaving ISRAD, or Pandemic Legion.
3. I don't plan on failing either

Let me clarify number two for a second. I don't plan on leaving PL unless Shadoo finally has enough of my shenanigans and permanently bans my services. Since I'm not anyone uber important over there (I'm not even a director, and only respond to the clarion call of Skymarshall when needed), I figure I have enough characters and enough motivation to carry on both activities. I did it before with the 54th, and that didn't turn out so bad while it lasted.

Now, on to the fun stuff.

When I mentioned this scheme to an old friend of mine, also an EVE player and currently a member of TEST, he particularly liked the idea of generating interest by resurrecting the 54th, or something like it to generate interest through general cockfaggery and assorted shenanigans. Seeing as how I'm still sitting on roughly five hundred thrashers pre-positioned in Venal, Fountain, and Providence, this seems like a good enough idea to me. Thrashers, Hurricanes, and Tornadoes to start (hopefully with a few scimmis!), with the target being anywhere and everywhere that has a large enough population to respond accordingly. Seeing as last time we were able to use Kugutsumen as a rallying platform to organize folks, I'll probably just post ops and information here again and try a repeat performance.

I think after a certain time frame, perhaps thirty to sixty days, we'll be able to judge how many of the people that we've enticed would be willing to start doing things in a somewhat more serious manner than a GLORIOUS alt corporation. At that point, I'll put together a new corporation and then we'll move things over to an actual secure forum and comms.

Well that all sounds well and good on paper, what I'd really like to know from some of you guys (in PMs or the comments, I don't care which), what you think about the whole idea. Is resurrecting the 54th for another go a decent idea? What about generating interest in the first place? Kugutsumen, despite being widely read, is a pretty insular community in its own way. What other platforms should we turn for recruitment?

I'm especially wary about transitioning from simply putting together a good corp to beginning to look at how to slap together the warm bodies for an alliance. I think that the former is a higher priority than the latter, and as such maybe the corporate stand up might take longer than I originally had anticipated. The biggest thing I want to ensure is that we have the critical mass of people to be able to run medium sized gangs (fifteen to twenty dudes sounds about right). Once we transition into serious business, I'm hoping to run a mixture of the same fast locking arty gangs complemented with some covert drops on the side or during off-peak hours. I think that combined with some of the griefing experts of ISRAD, we could make life real inconvenient for wherever we decide to move in, and fill up the killboard while we coalesce into something a bit more awesome.

I might also approach Elo Knight and his band of scallywags and see if we can't tag along once or twice and complement his huginns with a couple of our tornadoes. Hell, if Delve isn't burned down by the time I get home, I'm sure TEST will also be down for either honor fights or cockfagging in the region.

Speaking of Delve..... I haven't mentioned where the fatherland of this evil empire is going to be have I?

Guess I'll dive into that one next week.

Hit me up with your ideas, tirades, or accolades folks. Surprisingly enough, it's been refreshing to interact with EVE players again after such a long hiatus.

Till next week

It is a good idea. There are two things you can offer people to get them to join you: action and space. If you want to be an effective fighting force, then you want to get as many people as possible looking as much as possible for the former over the latter. The more fun, the more fights, the more quality pvp gameplay your organization can offer, the more and the better the pilots you'll attract. The best way to build a new organization is to lead fleets, and bring in more good fcs to lead more fleets.

The extension of this is that I personally wouldn't even really concern myself with attracting members as the focus of my efforts. There is an enormous supply of players just looking for the right leadership. Build your organization properly, and you will be able to pick and choose from thousands of applicants. What I would focus on is building my "executive" with good people and organizing its structure.

There are few good examples of executives to emulate, but hundreds of examples of bad ones to learn from. You need to decide how to structure the leadership of your organization, and how you will ensure its continuity. This doesn't mean writing hundreds of pages of bylaws for spaceship organizations, quite the opposite really, but it does mean having a structure that attracts, retains, and promotes talent. You need a few simple ideas about how decisions are made and how responsibilities and rewards are shared that are understood by everyone and which promote the kind of effective gameplay you'd like to see your organization be able to achieve.

Build a solid foundation of a few basic and clear ideas that attracts and promotes talented officers, and you'll have more grunt followers than you'll ever need.

We should still have the kugutsumen alliance around - you should use that and get some of us on roams and jollity.
